Ostrich Story: Ostrich Delivers Message
Little Bear, Little Deer, and Snow Rabbit decided to travel together into the desert, and Little Ostrich wanted to join them.
Snow Rabbit and Little Bear didn’t want to travel with Little Ostrich because they thought he looked ugly.
Snow Rabbit said, “Your feet have two clumsy, thick toes; they look so ugly!”
Little Bear added, “You have wings, but they can’t even make you fly.”
Little Ostrich timidly replied, “Maybe I can help you if we run into danger!”
Snow Rabbit said, “I don’t see any strengths in you. How could you possibly help us? I’m worried you’ll just become a burden!”
Little Deer spoke up on Little Ostrich’s behalf, and Snow Rabbit and Little Bear reluctantly agreed.
Early in the morning, the friends set off. They walked and walked through the desert. By noon, they were tired and thirsty. The scorching sun made them dizzy, and with every step, their feet sank deep into the burning hot sand, causing them great pain.
“It’s over, it’s over! If I keep walking, my feet will be cooked!” Little Bear groaned.
Snow Rabbit and Little Deer were also so weak they could barely move, but Little Ostrich still seemed full of energy. It turned out that the thick pads and calluses under Little Ostrich’s toes prevented him from sinking into the sand or getting burned by the hot sand.
“It’s over, we’re going to die!” Snow Rabbit thought more and more sadly and almost started to cry.
“I’ll deliver a message for you, so someone can come and rescue you!” said Little Ostrich.
Little Bear was doubtful. “Can you really do it?”
Little Ostrich confidently said, “Don’t worry, I can definitely deliver the rescue message!” With that, Little Ostrich ran off into the distance.
Watching Little Ostrich’s swift and steady figure, Little Bear exclaimed, “Little Ostrich runs so fast and steady, those wings that looked so clumsy actually help him keep his balance!”
Snow Rabbit, feeling ashamed, said, “The flaws we saw in Little Ostrich were actually the very traits that make him well-suited for living in the desert!”
