Be My Mushroom Story

Right now, it’s raining outside Kezi’s window. Whenever it rains, I feel like the house gives me a great sense of security, as if there’s someone by my side even when I’m alone. Kezi just saw a story and wants to share it with everyone.

Once, there was a psychiatric patient who believed he was a mushroom. So, every day, he would hold an umbrella and squat in the corner of his room, neither eating nor drinking, just like a real mushroom. A psychologist came up with a plan.

One day, the psychologist also took an umbrella and squatted next to the patient. The patient curiously asked, “Who are you?” The doctor replied, “I’m a mushroom too.”

The patient nodded and continued to be a mushroom.

After a while, the doctor stood up and started walking around the room. The patient asked him, “Aren’t you a mushroom? How can you walk around?”

The doctor replied, “Of course mushrooms can walk around!”

The patient thought it made sense and started walking too.

After a while, the doctor took out a hamburger and began to eat. The patient asked again, “Aren’t you a mushroom? How can you eat?” The doctor confidently replied, “Of course mushrooms can eat too.” The patient agreed, so he also started to eat…

A few weeks later, the patient was able to live like a normal person, although he still believed he was a mushroom.

After listening to this story, did you catch the underlying message? In fact, each of us has gone through many stories and possibly encountered many traumas in the past. A person can continue living with past wounds, as long as they keep the sadness confined to a small part of their heart, without letting the pain seep into their entire life. In that way, they can live happily like a normal person.

When your sadness becomes unbearable, perhaps you don’t need much advice or comfort, admonishment, or guidance. What you might need is just someone to squat down beside you and be a mushroom with you.

I can squat down and be a mushroom with you. I am willing to share your unhappiness, simply holding an umbrella for you when your world is raining. Please don’t close off your heart and bear so much alone.

You know, as long as you open your eyes, you are never alone. I am your mushroom.

We often debate whether companionship or understanding is more important. In fact, often only through companionship can you prove that you truly understand someone. I hope you find your own mushroom.
