Frog Story Growing Up: A Special Day
Frog was eating breakfast, feeling excited. “Today is a very special day! That’s what Rabbit said yesterday.” But why was today so special? Frog didn’t know.
“‘Very special,’ what does that mean? It must be something wonderful,” Frog thought.
He walked outside and saw the sun shining brightly. The weather was really nice today, the sky was clear with no clouds, sunny and warm. But nothing seemed special—yesterday was the same, the day before was the same, and so was the day before that. He decided to ask Duck.
“Duck, what day is it today?”
“Oh, let me think… today is Friday. No! Wait, maybe it’s Wednesday, or it could be Thursday.”
“No, today is just today,” Duck replied.
“Today is laundry day!” Pig answered. “I’m going to wash my sheets and pillowcases, and all my clothes. Do you want me to wash your swim trunks too?”
“Oh, no, thank you!” Frog said. “But, Pig, isn’t there something… special about today?”
“Not that I know of.”
Frog felt desperate and cried out, “But Rabbit told me that today is a special day, a very special day, unlike any other day.”
“Oh, I don’t know about that. Every day is special to me!” Mouse replied calmly.
“What a bad joke, today isn’t special at all. I hate today! It’s no different from any other day.”
Frog was very angry and decided to go find Rabbit and ask him why he would trick a friend like that.
But Rabbit wasn’t home. He had left a note on the door. The note mentioned something about a party, but Frog couldn’t really understand it.
He sat down with tears in his eyes. “Rabbit was invited to a party, that’s what he meant. He didn’t even let me come along, that’s so unfair! What kind of party could it be? There must be lots of cakes and lemonade, and flags everywhere.”
Frog could imagine red, yellow, and blue flags. Of course, there would also be singing and dancing. Oh, how he wanted to go!
Frog sobbed as he walked back to his house, but to his surprise, he saw a flag on the roof. What could that mean? Had someone been to his house? Maybe a thief!
When Frog opened the door, he couldn’t believe his eyes! The room was decorated with flags and flowers, and there was a cake with frosting on the table, along with lemonade.
“Happy Birthday.”
“Happy Birthday.”
“Happy Birthday.”
Frog looked around. There were flags everywhere, red, yellow, blue, and green, colorful, just as he had imagined.
Of course, they started celebrating. Everyone sang and danced, enjoying the cake, lemonade, and the happiness that the music brought them.
“I will never forget today!” he thought. “Rabbit was right, today is a very, very special day!”
