Squirrel Adventure: Two Pine Cones

Noel loved playing in the small woods because there were little squirrels jumping around. The squirrels had big fluffy tails, and the way they bowed their heads while eating pine cones was absolutely adorable.

“I wish the squirrels could come to my yard!” One day, Noel suddenly thought.

That day, Noel returned home with two pine cones from the woods. She thought, “If I put the pine cones in the yard, the squirrels might come.”

The next morning, Noel heard a knock at the door. When she opened it, there was no one there!

“Down here!” A voice came from the ground.

Noel quickly looked down: Oh! It was a tiny squirrel. “Hi! Can you give me some water? I’m so thirsty!” the squirrel said. Looking closer, Noel saw that the little squirrel was holding a pine cone in each of its front paws, and both had been half-eaten!

This made Noel very happy. She nodded eagerly and quickly went to pour a big glass of water for the squirrel. “Here, drink up!”

The squirrel took the glass and started gulping down the water. To Noel’s surprise, as the squirrel drank, it began to grow, getting taller and taller until it was the same height as Noel!

“Thank you!” the squirrel said as it handed back the empty glass. “Now that we’re the same height, playing together will be much more fun.”

They played on the seesaw in the yard.

They raced on bicycles and scooters.

They painted pictures and did crafts together…

They played the whole morning.

The squirrel then said to Noel, “I should go home now! My mom is waiting for me to have lunch!”

Noel looked at the squirrel in surprise: “You seem to be shrinking bit by bit, how is that possible…”

“Yes, yes, because the water I drank just turned into pee and I let it out,” the squirrel said with a cheeky grin.

When saying goodbye to the squirrel, Noel didn’t cry, because the squirrel had told her that if she ever wanted him to come back, she just needed to leave two pine cones on the ground in the yard!
