Rabbit children’s story

From Rabbit Ayue’s window, he could see a small road not far away. The road led to a rural primary school, and every day, groups of a few students would walk along the road. Ayue was very curious and wanted to know what the students did at school every day.

One morning, Ayue hid in the grass by the side of the road, waiting for two boys with backpacks to walk by. He suddenly jumped out of the grass and transformed into a little boy, following them. From the outside, Ayue looked just like any other boy, but he didn’t walk like a human; instead, he hopped forward, both feet leaving the ground at the same time.

Ayue followed the two boys and hopped into a classroom. There happened to be an empty seat in the classroom, so Ayue sat in it. He greeted everyone, saying, “Eeyah ge shopee.” This was rabbit language, meaning “Hello.” The boys and girls stared at Ayue, curious and excited. “Where did you come from? Did you walk into the wrong classroom?” asked the girl sitting next to him. “Siqueya mong, kasa dela pa,” Ayue replied, meaning, “That’s a secret, I can’t tell you.” After speaking, Ayue left his seat and hopped around the classroom. Everyone watched in amazement, but children love to imitate, so they started hopping around the classroom like Ayue and giggling. Everyone quickly grew fond of Ayue.

The bell rang for class, and the boys and girls rushed back to their seats, with Ayue hurriedly hopping back to his empty spot.

The next class was math. The math teacher entered the classroom with his books and got straight to teaching, not noticing there was an extra student in the room. The children didn’t tell the teacher about the new classmate either, afraid he might send Ayue away. The math teacher finished explaining the lesson and wrote a few problems on the blackboard, calling on some students to solve them at the board. The three students selected went to the front, leaving just one last problem. Ayue also wanted to go to the board, so he raised his hand as high as he could. The math teacher noticed and pointed the pointer at Ayue. Ayue was thrilled and jumped forward with a “whoosh,” soaring over rows of boys and girls to land steadily in front of the blackboard. “Wow!” Everyone gasped in amazement. Just then, the PE teacher walked by the classroom door, and when he saw this, he excitedly rushed in and grabbed Ayue’s arm, shouting, “Found him! Found him!” It turned out the PE teacher had been looking for a long jump star!

That day, Ayue represented the school in the city’s long jump competition and won the championship. When Ayue hopped back to the school with the trophy, the principal personally came out to greet him and kindly asked where Ayue lived so he could visit Ayue’s parents. Ayue thought, “Oh no, I’ve been away from home for so long, my parents must be worried.” So, Ayue handed the trophy to the principal and hopped away, quickly disappearing.

Everyone at the school missed Ayue dearly. They thought: Maybe one day, Ayue will return to the school.
