The Little Hedgehog Finds Food
A family of three little hedgehogs lived happily in a small forest.
One day, the little hedgehog’s parents fell ill, and the food they had stored at home had just run out. So, the little hedgehog decided to go out and find food on his own.
The little hedgehog walked out of his home and into a forest. He saw several brightly colored large mushrooms growing by the tree roots, like small umbrellas that had been opened. He thought to himself: Such large mushrooms must be very nutritious when made into soup. Thinking this, the little hedgehog ran over, hugged a large mushroom, and gave it a strong push. With a “crack” sound, the large mushroom fell over.
The little hedgehog happily carried the large mushroom home. As soon as he entered the house, he shouted, “Mom, look, I found a big mushroom!” His mother took a look and quickly said, “Oh, child, this is a poisonous mushroom; we can’t eat it.” His father said, “You need to find the red fruits growing on trees; those are what we can eat…”
The little hedgehog ran out of the house and came to a vegetable garden. He saw some green plants with long, red things hanging from them, like little flames. The little hedgehog thought to himself: This must be the food Dad asked me to find. The little hedgehog picked a few of the red fruits and carried them home.
As soon as he walked in the door, the little hedgehog shouted, “Dad, I found the red food you wanted.” His mother took a look, smiled, and said, “Oh, child, these are chili peppers; we can’t eat them.” His father said, “Child, you need to find the red fruits that grow on fruit trees. You can tell if they’re edible by tasting them.” The little hedgehog happily said, “I understand now.”
The little hedgehog walked out of the house and came to an orchard. He saw that the fruit trees were full of large, red fruits, like a tree covered in red lanterns. The little hedgehog thought: This must be the food I’m supposed to find. He ran to a fruit tree, quickly climbed up, and pulled one down. He sniffed it; it smelled wonderful. He took a bite; it was so sweet and delicious! So, the little hedgehog hugged a branch full of fruit and shook it hard. Thud, thud, the large, red fruits fell all over the ground.
The little hedgehog thought: How am I going to carry all these fruits home? He thought and thought, and finally came up with a good idea. He rolled on the ground a few times, and the red fruits stuck all over him. The little hedgehog happily carried the fruits home. When his parents saw him, they said joyfully, “These are the apples we love the most.” Hearing this, the little hedgehog smiled happily.
The little hedgehog’s family ate the sweet, delicious apples and was extremely happy!
