Little Bunny and Apple Tree
Autumn had arrived, and the little bunny Qiuqiu was playing in the meadow. In the distance, it saw a tall and large apple tree. The apples on the tree were bright red and looked so beautiful! Qiuqiu hopped over, curiously saying, “Huh, why does this apple tree have a little door? And windows too? Oh, it’s an apple tree house!”
Qiuqiu peeked through the window and saw a cup with a flower straw in it. The little bunny Qiuqiu really liked that flower straw. It knocked on the little door, but there was no response. It then pressed the flower-shaped doorbell, but still, no one came to open the door.
Qiuqiu thought to itself, “How could they not hear such a loud doorbell? The owner of this treehouse must not be home. Maybe they’ve gone on a trip.”
“Whose house could it be?” Qiuqiu thought for a long time but couldn’t figure it out, so it asked the apple tree, “Hello, Apple Tree! Whose house is this? It’s so beautiful inside!”
“Oh, this is the little squirrel’s house,” the apple tree replied.
“Why isn’t the little squirrel at home?” Qiuqiu asked.
“The little squirrel went south with the swallows.”
“Huh? How could the little squirrel go south with the swallows?”
“A long time ago, there was another big tree beside me. The swallows lived in that tree, and the swallow had two little babies. But one day, the swallow saw a team of loggers. She wondered if the loggers would cut down that tree. When she saw the workers lifting their big scythes toward the tree, the swallow quickly took her babies and left the tree, flying to the little squirrel’s house. After some time, the weather turned cool, and the baby swallows learned how to fly. The swallow family needed to go south, so they took the little squirrel with them to the warm south,” the apple tree said, sounding a bit sad.
“Apple Tree, Apple Tree, don’t be sad. When spring comes next year, the little squirrel will surely return with the swallows!” Qiuqiu quickly said.
“But I miss the days when the little squirrel and the swallow family were here. It was so lively every day!”
“Then I’ll come to play with you every day from now on!”
“Great, great!” the apple tree happily replied, and the red apples on the tree also nodded cheerfully.
