Centipede Story: The Magical Centipede Train

Little Centipede Duoduo was very unhappy in the centipede family. Duoduo was too kind-hearted and never joined the other centipedes in poisoning people, so the other centipedes thought he was different.

Duoduo decided to leave the centipedes. He wanted to become a centipede that everyone liked.

As Duoduo walked through the grass, he suddenly heard the sound of crying. He quickly followed the sound and found a little ant named Heihei wiping away tears under a small blade of grass by the roadside.

“Heihei, why are you crying?” Duoduo asked with concern.

Heihei already knew that centipedes had a bad reputation, but hearing the gentle voice of little Duoduo, he couldn’t help but sniffle and share his troubles.

“Bunny Swift, Rooster Golden Voice, Squirrel Bushy Tail, and Hedgehog Spiky all went on a train trip together. I asked if they could take me with them, but they said I was too small and refused! I’ve never been on a train before!”

Duoduo thought, “Heihei is really pitiful, I should help him!” So he said to Heihei, “I’ll take you on a train ride!”

“How will you take me on a train?” Heihei asked, half-doubting.

“Come on, climb onto my back!” Duoduo said.

Heihei obediently climbed onto Duoduo’s back. Duoduo then ran forward quickly, shouting, “Heihei, how do you like this train?”

Heihei suddenly realized: Duoduo was pretending to be a train! He looked down at Duoduo’s body and saw that it was made up of many segments, just like a real train!

Heihei happily exclaimed, “Haha, I’m on a train!” He shouted to everyone they passed, “I’m on a train!”

At that moment, little centipede Duoduo carried Heihei to a large tree where a group of ants was climbing up and down the trunk.

“Heihei, hold on tight, the train is going to climb the tree,” Duoduo shouted.

Heihei hugged Duoduo tightly, and sure enough, Duoduo climbed up the tree. Heihei became even more excited: “Haha, my train can climb trees!”

The other little ants looked at this strange train in amazement and enviously asked Heihei, “Can we ride your train too?”

“Duoduo, can I invite my friends to ride the train too?” Heihei asked Duoduo.

Duoduo was generous: “Of course! How many cars does my train have?”

Heihei counted carefully and loudly announced, “It has 173 cars!”

“Great, let 172 more passengers hop on!”

Haha, there just happened to be 172 ants on the tree. Heihei invited everyone to ride the train. The ants happily climbed onto this magical train.

“Centipede Train, let’s go!” Heihei joyfully commanded.

The centipede train started moving again. Little centipede Duoduo carried 173 little passengers as they climbed trees, scaled walls, and walked on tightropes. The ants were having the time of their lives. Along the way, everyone chatted, laughed, and sang.

Look, wherever the centipede train went, it was welcomed by everyone. Little Duoduo discovered that bringing happiness to others is the way to be welcomed by everyone, and that’s how you can find true happiness yourself!

How many segments does a centipede have?

Centipedes belong to the class Chilopoda. The medicinal centipede is a large myriapod with 21 pairs of legs and 1 pair of forcipules; the “money string” centipede also has only 15 pairs of legs and 1 pair of forcipules; the “stone centipede” also has only 15 pairs of legs. Some centipedes have more legs and shorter bodies, with 35 pairs, 45 pairs, or even up to 173 pairs of legs.

A centipede’s body has one pair of legs for each segment. So, if a centipede has many legs, it also has many body segments. In other words, some centipedes can have up to 173 segments.
