Duck Story: The Timid Duck of Blue Lake
“Little Brother Duck, come into the water!” Big Brother Duck called to the little duckling on the shore from the lake.
“I’m scared, I don’t want to go into the water,” the little duckling said nervously as it looked at the blue lake.
“Little Brother Duck, come and chase me!” Big Sister Duck called to the little duckling from the grassy field.
“No, I’m scared of stepping on ants,” the little duckling replied as it carefully followed Big Sister Duck.
“Oh, what a timid duck,” both Big Brother and Big Sister Duck said. From then on, the name “Timid Duck” spread like the wind.
“Timid Duck, come with me to pick some fruit,” a little rabbit said, pulling Timid Duck by the hand to a hillside to pick fruit.
“Timid Duck Brother, look! The tree is full of big, red peaches. I really want to take a bite. Can you help me pick one?”
“Oh no, the peaches are hanging so high on the tree. I’m afraid of heights. Let’s go find a bamboo stick instead.”
“Little Rabbit Sister, watch me!” A passing monkey said, and in no time, it climbed up the tree, picked a peach, and gave it to the little rabbit.
“Timid Duck Brother, you don’t dare to climb trees, so I won’t play with you anymore,” the little rabbit said as she walked away, munching on the peach.
Timid Duck slowly came down the hillside, and a little bear saw him. “Come to my tree hollow. I have a little pet there,” the bear said.
Timid Duck walked into the dark tree hollow, his heart pounding. “I really am a timid duck,” he muttered to himself.
“Take a look at my little pet,” the bear said, placing the pet in Timid Duck’s hands.
“Take it away, take it away!” Timid Duck trembled in fear—it was a little earthworm.
“Don’t be scared, it won’t bite you,” the little bear laughed.
Timid Duck left the tree hollow, unhappy, and as he walked home, suddenly a bird chirped from the tree, and someone was shouting from the lake, “Help!” It turned out a chick had fallen into the lake while playing on the shore.
Timid Duck quickly ran to the blue lake, and without a second thought, jumped into the water and pulled the chick to safety.
After a while, the chick, still shaken, said gratefully, “Thank you, Timid Duck—Big Brother Duck!”
When everyone learned that Timid Duck had saved the chick, they all praised him for being brave! From then on, the timid little duck was no longer timid.
