The Story of the Little Spider
The little spider was hungry. Just as he finished weaving his web, a sudden downpour tore it to shreds, leaving him with no choice but to repair it after the rain stopped.
By the time the little spider finished fixing his web, he was exhausted.
The little spider was eagerly hoping to catch some food.
A green-headed fly, humming a tune, flew towards the web and crashed into it. The little spider was overjoyed, thinking he finally had a prize.
Just then, a small sparrow flew by and broke a hole in the web, allowing the green-headed fly to escape.
The little spider was heartbroken! But what good would feeling sad do? The little spider began repairing his web once again, bit by bit… By the time the evening glow painted the sky red, the little spider had finally fixed his web.
The little spider was so tired that he fell asleep.
When the little spider woke up, he saw that his web had caught a big dragonfly. This dragonfly would be enough for the little spider to feast on for two days.
The little spider slowly crawled up to the dragonfly.
The dragonfly glared at the little spider, “If I hadn’t been so focused on chasing mosquitoes, I wouldn’t have crashed into the web you wove! I never thought you’d use such a despicable trick to trap me…”
The little spider quickly interrupted the dragonfly, “I… I wove this web… to catch mosquitoes and flies, not to… not to catch you…” The dragonfly’s eyes lit up, “So, you’re going to let me go?”
“Yes,” the little spider nodded, “I’ve always heard from my mother that you’re an expert at catching mosquitoes and flies. I’ve always hoped that one day we could become friends!” With that, the little spider began to gently pull apart the web’s silken threads, allowing the dragonfly to fly free.
The little spider, now both hungry and tired, fainted…
“Little Spider, Little Spider…”
At some point, the little spider heard the dragonfly’s voice. The little spider slowly woke up, only to see the dragonfly and his companions flying around his torn web. When he looked again at his web, he saw it had caught quite a few mosquitoes and flies.
The little spider realized that these mosquitoes and flies had surely been driven over by the dragonfly and his companions… The little spider was happy to have so many good friends.
