Bobcat is king
Once upon a time, near the ocean, there was a forest. One day, a wildcat arrived in this forest. The animals in the forest had never seen a wildcat, nor had they ever seen a tiger, so they mistook the wildcat for a tiger. They all bowed down in reverence and said, “Welcome, mighty Tiger King!”
The wildcat was taken aback, but quickly realized what was going on and was secretly delighted. “Thank you, everyone. Please take good care of me from now on!” he said.
“Of course! It is our duty to serve the King!” the animals all replied in unison.
And so, the wildcat became the king of the forest. Every day, the animals served him, providing him with food and drink, and the wildcat lived a very comfortable life.
One day, a fox cautiously asked, “Your Majesty, from what we know, tigers are usually large and mighty. But your size…”
The wildcat angrily interrupted, “How dare you speak so insolently!” Then, pointing to a large stone on the ground outside, he asked the fox, “What is that?”
“A stone,” the fox replied.
The wildcat then pointed to a smaller stone and asked, “And what about that one?”
“That’s also a stone,” the fox answered.
“Exactly!” the wildcat said angrily. “Stones come in different sizes, so naturally tigers can be different in size too! A large stone is a stone, and a small stone is also a stone. Just as large tigers are tigers, small tigers are also tigers! No matter the size, both stones are hard, right? And tigers, whether big or small, are just as capable!”
“My apologies, Your Majesty. I didn’t mean to offend you. I truly deserve to be punished!” the fox pleaded for forgiveness.
One day, a wolf caught a fish and brought it to the wildcat to eat. The wildcat drooled and ate it with great relish. The wolf watched the wildcat’s eating habits and found it very strange. “Your Majesty, I’ve heard that cats enjoy eating fish like this, but tigers usually prefer meat. Why do you…”
The wildcat’s eyes twinkled. “Oh, I once lived on an island for a while where there was little meat and plenty of fish, so I developed a taste for fish.”
“Ah, I see. Then I shall catch more fish to offer you, Your Majesty!” the wolf said.
A few days later, the wildcat went out for a stroll in the forest, accompanied by the animals. When they reached the woods, the wildcat suddenly felt playful and leaped up into the trees, jumping from one tree to another.
The animals were amazed. “Your Majesty, we’ve only heard of cats having this ability. Tigers aren’t supposed to be able to do this…”
The wildcat scolded them loudly, “Fools! Skills are acquired through practice. Other tigers are big and clumsy, so of course, they can’t develop this ability. Only someone like me, with a strong and agile body, could master such a skill!”
“Oh, you’ve opened our eyes, Your Majesty!” the animals cheered.
Many days passed, and one day, a real tiger approached the forest. The wildcat received the news and hurried out of the forest to investigate. As soon as he saw the tiger, he was terrified and ran away as fast as he could.
The animals, seeing the wildcat’s panicked behavior and recalling all his previous actions, immediately understood the truth.
