Little Brown Bear went to the riverbank to fish. He looked into the water and excitedly exclaimed, “Wow, the river is full of fish!”
He quickly cast his fishing rod into the water and caught three fish; then he cast again and caught three more. He was so engrossed that he didn’t even hear the little cat on the opposite bank calling out to him.
Little Brown Bear caught a bucketful of fish. He carried them home and happily said to his mother, “Please cook some fish for Dad and you. As for me, fry three and stew three.”
His mother smiled and said, “The fish you caught are plastic; they can’t be eaten.”
“Plastic fish?” Little Brown Bear was puzzled. All the fish he’d ever seen had been cooked by his mother, so he’d never seen a live fish before. Feeling sad, he said, “Well then, I’ll keep these plastic fish as toys!”
At that moment, the little cat came over with a fish in its paw. The little cat said, “Ever since they built the plastic factory by the river, plastic fish have been swimming in the river. They must have eaten the real fish; otherwise, why would there be fewer and fewer fish in the river? I fished for half a day and only caught one.”
Little Brown Bear was confused. How could plastic fish eat real fish? His mother explained that plastic contains harmful substances, and if the river is polluted, the fish living in it will die.
