Read Love Stories: You Owe Me One Dollar
Their meeting was somewhat dramatic.
She had carried her heavy luggage all the way from her hometown to her dream destination—the university. At the school gate, she wanted to make a phone call home to say she had arrived safely, but she couldn’t find even one dollar after searching all her pockets. He happened to walk past her. Blushing, she said, “Hi! Excuse me, can you lend me a dollar?”
Without saying a word, he took out a dollar and handed it to her.
She wanted to say thank you, but he walked away without looking back.
Coincidentally, they were in the same class. She laughed and mentioned the incident to him, but he was surprised and said, “Oh? When was that? I don’t remember.”
She laughed, he laughed, and they became friends from then on—just friends. However, she hoped they could become lovers, but she couldn’t figure out his feelings. He was handsome and lively, and many girls liked him. It was hard to tell if he was particularly fond of anyone.
Gradually, she found it exhausting to try to read his mind. After thinking for a long time, she decided to give up. The best substitute for giving up on one affection is to start another romance. So, she accepted a date with a boy she didn’t dislike and went to see a movie with him. When she returned, she saw him standing outside the girls’ dormitory with a gloomy face. As soon as he saw her, he shouted, “You owe me a dollar, pay me back.”
At first, she was startled by his shouting, then she anxiously searched her pockets for money. She found a hundred, fifty, twenty, ten, and five-dollar bills but no one-dollar bill. She was so anxious that she was about to cry. She took out a hundred-dollar bill and threw it at him, saying, “Keep the change.”
He didn’t take the money. Instead, he pulled her into his arms with a stern face and growled, “You little rascal, you don’t owe me money, you owe me affection. I refuse to believe you don’t have any feelings for me.”
She tried her best to hold back her tears and smiled.
