bedtime story about hen

Once upon a time, there was an old hen who hatched seven chicks. Among them, the little hen named Huanhuan was the most mischievous.

One day, the old hen counted her chicks and discovered that Huanhuan was missing. Where did she go?

It turned out that Huanhuan had long wanted to explore the outside world. Today, she seized the opportunity while her mother wasn’t paying attention and sneaked out quietly.

Huanhuan walked and walked until she encountered a mole.

“Good morning, Mole!” Huanhuan said. “Can you play with me?”

“Sorry, little hen. I must dig a new tunnel today,” said the mole.

“Can I watch you dig the tunnel?” Huanhuan asked.

“Of course, but you can only follow me and mustn’t interfere with my work.”

The tunnel was pitch black and nothing could be seen. Following the mole, Huanhuan accidentally bumped into a wall and fell. It hurt so much that she started crying.

“Why are you crying?” asked the mole.

“Sorry, I tripped and fell. But I really don’t want to stay in here because I can’t see anything. I want to go back. Can you take me?” Huanhuan said.

The mole said, “Is that even necessary? Just turn around and walk out on your own.” With that, the mole continued working, ignoring Huanhuan.

Huanhuan had no choice but to turn around and feel her way out of the tunnel slowly.

“Ah! The sun is already high up in the sky, so warm!” Huanhuan said, stretching lazily.

Huanhuan continued walking and soon arrived at a small river. She was tired and thirsty, ready to drink some water.

“Stop! Wait a minute!”

Huanhuan was startled and turned around to see that it was Mother Duck calling her.

Mother Duck said, “Come back, line up, and we’ll go into the water together.”

Huanhuan had no choice but to walk over and saw six little ducks standing neatly behind Mother Duck.

“Line up properly!” Mother Duck said. “Do warm-up exercises before getting into the water.”

“First exercise, loosen up your joints.” Mother Duck commanded, “One, two, three…”

“Sorry, Mother Duck,” Huanhuan said, “I’m not a little duck; I’m a little hen.”

“Oh my goodness! You’re a little hen?” the nearsighted Mother Duck exclaimed. “What are you doing by the river?”

Huanhuan said, “I’m thirsty and wanted to drink some water. But mainly, I wanted to see the outside world. Mother Duck, can I play with these little ducks?”

“Of course!” Mother Duck said. “Today I’m teaching them how to swim. If you want, you can join us!”

“That’s wonderful!” Huanhuan said, lining up with the six little ducks.

“Now let’s continue the warm-up exercises,” Mother Duck began to command again, “One, two, three…” Huanhuan didn’t know how to do the exercises and just moved her body awkwardly with the little ducks.

Mother Duck was nearsighted and didn’t notice that Huanhuan was not doing the exercises correctly.

“Now you can get into the water,” Mother Duck finally commanded. “Remember, follow one another and don’t fall behind.”

Huanhuan followed them into the water. Oh, the water was so cold. She didn’t know how to paddle. Still, she took a step forward.

“Help!” Huanhuan felt herself sinking and cried out in panic.

Mother Duck quickly jumped into the water and rescued Huanhuan. Huanhuan kept spitting out water.

Mother Duck said, “You may never be able to swim. Perhaps you’re meant to stay on land forever.”

Huanhuan said, “No matter what you say, I have to thank you first because you saved me. Secondly, I thank you because you let me experience swimming.”

Mother Duck shook her head and went back into the water, leading the little ducks to swim.

Huanhuan stood on the shore, shivering, too scared to go back into the water.

Just then, she heard her mother’s voice: “Huanhuan, where are you?”

“Mom, I’m here!” Huanhuan called out loudly, running towards her mother.

“Mom, I’m so happy to see you!” Huanhuan said.

“Good girl, don’t run off again. I worry so much when I can’t see you!”

Huanhuan snuggled into her mother’s wings and said, “I wanted to see the outside world, but actually, the best place is in your warm embrace.”
