Children frog story: A Race Among the Lotus Leaves

The frogs’ race doesn’t take place on land, nor in the pond.

The mischievous little frogs decided to hold a friendly jumping race on the lotus leaves in the pond. The green lotus leaves were close together, and even though some were a bit farther apart, the frogs, with their excellent jumping ability, could easily leap across them.

This was a race to practice their jumping skills.

When the lotus leaves in the pond learned that the little frogs were going to hold this race on them, they were overjoyed. Each lotus stem supported a green leaf, like a jade plate. On these large green plates, a few crystal-clear water droplets rolled around.

Five frogs held their breath at the edge of the pond.

Grandpa Turtle was the judge, and he held up the starting pistol.

“Bang!” Grandpa Turtle pulled the trigger.

The five little frogs, like five flying green leaves, shot out. They jumped from one lotus leaf to another, each one jumping faster and farther than the last.

The green lotus leaves swayed, and the water droplets on the leaves bounced along, letting out cheerful shouts.

One strong green frog jumped with the most power, and his jumping posture was the most graceful. He looked like a green bird flying among the lotus leaves.

The little frog jumped all the way to the last lotus leaf.

Everyone clapped and shouted, “Oh, the little frog is first.”

But the little frog had no idea that he had won and that this was the last lotus leaf. He took a big leap, and with a “plop,” he jumped into the pond. In the pond, a group of little fish was also watching the intense race.

These little fish were opening their mouths wide, cheering for the little frog.

As a splash of water flew up, the little frog landed in the water, right among the little fish. The fish were startled, but when they saw it was the little frog, they swam over, kissed the frog’s cheeks, and said, “You came in first!”

“Did I come in first?” the little frog happily said, covering his face.

“Yes, you came in first,” all the little fish said.

The little frog jumped back onto the lotus leaf, raised his arms, and shouted:

“I came in first, the little fish said so!”
