Crab Story: The Crab Barber

After much consideration, a crab decided to become a barber. For a crab, this idea was quite fantastic.

However…

“Business is really slow,” the crab sighed. In other words, not a single customer had come by.

So, the crab barber took his scissors and went to the seaside. There, an octopus was taking a nap. “Hey, Mr. Octopus,” called the crab.

The octopus opened his eyes and asked, “What’s up?”

“I’m a barber. Do you need a haircut?”

“Take a good look. Do I have any hair on my head?”

The crab carefully examined the octopus’s head, and sure enough, there wasn’t a single hair. It was completely smooth. No matter how skilled the crab was, he couldn’t do anything with a bald head.

So, the crab went to the mountains. There, a raccoon dog was taking a nap. “Hey, Mr. Raccoon Dog,” called the crab.

The raccoon dog opened his eyes and asked, “What’s up?”

“I’m a barber. Do you need a haircut?”

The raccoon dog loved to play pranks, so he came up with a mischievous idea. “Sure, give me a haircut. But there’s one condition: after you finish my haircut, you have to give my dad a haircut too.”

“Oh, that’s easy.” So, the crab started snipping away with his scissors. Snip, snip, snip. However, the crab was very small. Compared to him, the raccoon dog was a giant. And the raccoon dog was covered in hair from head to toe. So, cutting his hair took a lot of time and effort. The crab worked tirelessly, foaming at the mouth, snipping away with his scissors. After three days, the job was finally done.

“Now, as we agreed, give my dad a haircut.”

“How big is your dad?” asked the crab.

“He’s about as big as that mountain over there.”

The crab was terrified and thought: If he’s that big, there’s no way I can handle this by myself. So, the crab made all his children become barbers. Not just his children, but his grandchildren and great-grandchildren—every crab born became a barber.

That’s why, when we look by the roadside, we see even the tiniest crabs carrying scissors.
