Heartwarming high school story

He was an odd person.

He rarely spoke, was often late, and had a particularly bad temper. I never saw him walking or eating with anyone. The most memorable thing about him was that he always delayed paying his tuition fees every semester.

He didn’t perform well academically and wasn’t sociable, so neither the teachers nor the students liked him very much. Especially our homeroom teacher, who would frequently call him out in class to remind him to pay his tuition. He wouldn’t respond, just kept his head down so low it seemed like he wanted to bury it in the desk.

Later on, he became my deskmate. But within a week, we were separated.

He liked to pile his books messily, and sometimes they encroached on my space. Not knowing him well, I would sternly scold him. Once, I got really angry and pointed at his head, asking, “How can you be so ill-mannered? How did your father raise you?”

Because of this comment, he suddenly jumped up and kicked me. Young and hot-headed, I couldn’t stand it. After a big fight, we became sworn enemies.

For a long time afterward, I couldn’t understand why he suddenly jumped up and hit me.

In the first semester of eighth grade, he continued to delay paying his tuition. Our homeroom teacher called him out daily, asking if there were any difficulties. He still wouldn’t respond, keeping his head very low.

At that time, he was about 15 years old. Since no one wanted to be his deskmate and his grades were terrible, he was assigned to sit alone in a corner of the cleaning area.

No one paid attention to him, and he had no friends. During PE class, he usually hid in the classroom to sleep. Soon, we forgot about him.

In eighth grade, we elected a class monitor, a girl who was not only kind and diligent but also played the piano beautifully, making her very popular.

During a PE class free activity period, she brought a piece of green stationery and asked everyone in the class to sign it. She said it would be meaningful to keep everyone’s handwriting together since we were graduating in a year, and anyone who signed would get a free bottle of Coke. Everyone was thrilled and rushed to sign.

In the end, 46 people returned to the classroom with 46 bottles of Coke, chatting and laughing, making him in the corner appear even more isolated and lonely.

Later, he changed into a different person. At first, I thought it was an illusion, but everyone agreed.

Not only did he take over cleaning the entire classroom, but he also carried water from the sports field for his classmates under the scorching sun. The most absurd thing was during the autumn sports meet, where he not only accompanied runners and handed out sugary drinks but also cheered louder than anyone else.

No one knew what he had gone through or why he was doing this, but his actions, like crystal-clear droplets, touched and warmed the hearts around him.

Many people felt moved and extended a helping hand to him. Some helped him with his studies, others bought him breakfast, and someone even suggested secretly collecting money for the next semester to solve his tuition problem.

After the final exams, although his grades were average, he was still chosen as the most improved student of the year and gave a speech on stage.

It was the first time I saw him cry. He took out a piece of green stationery from his pocket and carefully unfolded it: “I come from a single-parent family. My father passed away early, and my mother struggles to raise me and my younger brother.

That day, I came early intending to pack up and drop out, but unexpectedly, I received this letter. I really want to thank everyone for your help. I was worried you would look down on me… Without the tuition money you raised for me, I might already be a miserable coal miner…”

Everyone saw it clearly. The green stationery had 46 different handwritings and 46 familiar names.

No one spoke or looked at the class monitor. A long time later, the classroom was filled with a wave of applause.
