Heartwarming love stories: Simple Girl
Morning, a layer of mist enveloped the town in a dreamy haze, like a thin veil drifting in the air. As the golden sun slowly rose from the horizon, the mist gradually dissipated. The small town had not fully awakened, but a young man, Feng Bo, was already pushing his pastry cart towards the market.
On the way, he encountered a simple-minded girl squatting by a garbage heap, gnawing on a dirty watermelon rind. The red watermelon juice mixed with the dirt on her face, dripping from the corners of her mouth.
For some reason, Feng Bo felt a surge of compassion. He reached out and knocked the watermelon rind from her hand, saying, “Don’t eat that. It’s dirty and smelly. You’ll get a stomachache.”
“I’m hungry,” the girl said, looking up at him with a vacant expression.
“Come with me, I’ll give you something to eat.”
“Hee hee,” the girl giggled and followed closely behind Feng Bo, laughing foolishly as she walked.
After setting up his stall, Feng Bo quickly cooked a pastry and handed it to the girl. She devoured it in a few bites, not caring if it was hot. Seeing that she was full, Feng Bo told her to leave, but she just sat beside him, refusing to move.
After selling all his pastries, Feng Bo had no choice but to take her home. His mother, seeing the dirty-faced girl, calmly brought out a basin of water and a towel to wash her, all the while mumbling, “Oh, poor child. But we can’t keep her. We can’t afford to.”
Feng Bo didn’t say a word, silently smoking. After his mother cleaned the girl up, he reluctantly pushed her out the door.
The girl stood outside, unwilling to leave, banging on the door and calling out, “Mom… Mom…”
His mother couldn’t bear it any longer and opened the door, sighing deeply, “Let her stay! I can eat a bit less.”
The girl was very obedient, doing whatever she was told. But if she saw a school or children going to school, she would go mad, running around and screaming, looking very frightening.
Every day, Feng Bo’s mother patiently taught the girl how to cook and do housework. Although she often broke dishes, she gradually learned to cook rice and make simple dishes independently. This made Feng Bo’s mother very happy, and she often chatted with the girl. At first, the girl just giggled, but slowly she began to think, and her mind became clearer, eventually able to answer simple questions.
Feng Bo rarely talked to the girl and seldom spent time alone with her. His mother told him that the girl had lost her mind because she failed to get into college and couldn’t remember anything after going mad.
Feng Bo wanted to help the girl find her family, but whenever he asked about her relatives, she would just cling to his mother and call her “Mom.”
Under his mother’s careful care, the girl’s mind gradually recovered, and she became almost indistinguishable from a normal person.
Seeing that the girl was quite pretty, Feng Bo’s mother hoped to pair her with her son. She had the girl go with Feng Bo to sell pastries every morning. Spending time together every day, their feelings for each other grew. When they finally confirmed their romantic relationship and wanted to be together, a problem arose.
The girl had no ID or household registration, so they couldn’t register their marriage. They had to find her family.
Feng Bo placed a notice in the newspaper seeking her relatives. Before long, a luxury car stopped in front of his house. The people who came to take the girl threw a large stack of money at them and forcibly took the girl away. The car sped off, leaving Feng Bo and his mother stunned.
Days passed by, and the girl seemed like a gust of wind that had blown through, leaving no trace.
Feng Bo became even more silent. One drizzly morning, he was pushing his cart to the market when he saw a dirty figure squatting by the roadside. He thought he was seeing things and rubbed his eyes hard.
The girl stood up, grinning foolishly at him, holding a bright red household registration book in her hand.
