Forest white horse legend
In the forest, there was a small black dot moving—that was an old hunter. With many years of hunting experience, he rarely let any prey escape his grasp. At this moment, he was dragging a deer home.
As he walked, the old hunter seemed to catch a glimpse of a large white shadow flashing before him. He raised his gun cautiously. Half an hour passed, and the white shadow hadn’t reappeared, so the old hunter relaxed his guard. Suddenly, he was thrilled to see a rare white wild horse running toward him. The fur of a white wild horse was extremely valuable.
The hunter raised his gun and aimed at the wild horse. “Bang!” The gunshot rang out, but the wild horse’s body was nowhere to be seen. Only a few strands of pure white mane lay on the ground.
Panicked, the old hunter ran back to the village and told the villagers that there was a white horse in the forest that couldn’t be shot. He urged the village chief to lead everyone to capture the horse, and the chief readily agreed.
The white horse in the forest was half wild horse, having escaped from its owner.
Though the wild white horse could avoid traps and bullets, it still tried to stay hidden from hunters, not revealing its presence. Usually, it only came out to forage at night.
Today, the white horse ventured out during the day and was spotted. That night, it ventured out again, heading to the forest’s edge, gazing at the lights of the village, feeling a bit afraid.
What the wild horse feared came to pass.
The next day, groups of people entered the forest with hunting dogs, guns, nets, traps, and materials to set up snares.
Their hunting plan was flawless: first, use the dogs to flush out the white horse, driving it toward the hunters, who would then shoot at it, pushing it into pre-set traps. If the horse wasn’t killed or caught in a trap, the dogs and people would herd it towards the nets. If that failed, they would drive it towards areas with hidden traps.
Early in the morning, the dogs were sent out and quickly found the white horse. The horse kicked one of the dogs far away. Some weaker dogs gave up and returned to the village. Seeing this, the villagers resorted to covertly following the horse.
The wild white horse decided to leave the forest. Along the way, it saw many greedy eyes. Finally, it reached the forest’s edge.
After a few steps, it was spotted again. The entire village was chasing it, forcing it to the edge of a cliff.
Someone shouted, “Ahead is a cliff; if you jump, you’ll surely die!”
The white horse looked back at the forest and remembered its vow: “I would rather be shattered than be slaughtered.” Without hesitation, it leaped off the cliff.
