Love Story 70s Girl
Many years ago, a girl was watching “Meteor Garden” and sent a text message to a boy (her boyfriend) saying, “Some people’s love lasts only a week. Will ours be just a week?” The boy quickly replied, “I hope it lasts ten thousand years.” Even though the girl knew that ten thousand years was impossible, her heart was sweetened by the response.
The girl had a bad temper, and not long after, because of a small matter, she said, “Let’s break up.” The girl always knew that these two words hurt feelings and shouldn’t be said lightly, but she was still a young girl and didn’t really mean to break up. She just wanted the boy to hold onto her, to prove that he still cared.
As a result, the boy didn’t. The girl was very, very sad. What hurt more was when the boy told her, “Your temper is too bad, you should find someone 7 or 8 years older than you.” The girl cried all day after reading that message.
To forget about the boy, the girl quickly went on a blind date. It was her first blind date, with a man ten years older than her. When the girl saw him from a distance, she wanted to run away. She knew that blind dates couldn’t change anything; if she couldn’t forget, she just couldn’t forget.
The next year, the girl saw the boy on the street. They just passed by each other. The boy didn’t see the girl, and she fought the urge to call his name because she was afraid of his indifference.
Not long after, the girl got a dog. On the first day the dog came home, without thinking, she named it after the boy. The girl didn’t even know why she did that.
Later, at a class reunion, the girl was nervous, anxious, and conflicted, hoping the boy would attend but also not wanting to see him. In the end, the boy didn’t come, and the girl felt a bit lost as she hadn’t seen him for a long time.
Another year passed, and the girl often thought of the boy. One weekend in May, she went out for dinner with a friend. About 5 meters away, she saw the boy riding his bike slowly towards her. Without hesitation, she called his name, but the boy didn’t react and just rode past her. Her friend said she had mistaken someone else for him, but the girl was certain, “I didn’t mistake him.”
As seasons came and went, people around the girl showed interest in her, but attempts at relationships failed because the girl knew her feelings weren’t there. She often thought of that boy, wanting to call him but not daring to. The thought of his indifferent eyes and unfamiliar tone scared her. Later, she saw the boy on a bus, but she turned her face away, still scared, and when she got off the bus, she fled in panic.
Certain feelings, when accumulated for too long, eventually explode. The girl always thought of the boy. At the end of another summer, she often dreamt of the boy getting married. Finally, she couldn’t hold back and shakily called him, telling him, “I miss you.”
After saying this, she felt an urge to cry. The boy thought she had been drinking, which made the girl very sad. That boy would never know that a girl thought of him all these days, always suppressing her desire to reach out.
A few months later, after not seeing each other for many years, the boy and the girl met again. The girl was very happy and kept telling herself, “It’s good to be friends.” But people are a bit greedy. Even though the girl knew the boy had a girlfriend, she still harbored a sliver of hope.
A week later, that hope was shattered as the boy returned to his indifferent attitude. The girl was confused, wondering if she had done something wrong for things to turn out so badly again. After a long time, she gathered the courage to call, but the boy didn’t answer.
Sometimes, it’s like this: when you want to speak, there’s no chance, and when you have the chance, you don’t want to speak anymore.
Now, the girl still thinks of the boy, hoping he is happy, joyful, and has a wonderful family. And the girl has finally understood the saying, “To gain is my fortune, to lose is my fate. Everything follows destiny.”
