Heartwarming children’s story
Grandma Doll’s doll shop had been open for a long time, and the skillful Grandma Doll always seemed to know what children liked. With a piece of bright fabric and some snow-white cotton, she could turn them into adorable little bears, clever little bunnies, gentle kangaroo moms, and tall giraffes. These cute dolls would be immediately noticed by children with sparkling eyes, and their mothers would have no choice but to let them take the dolls home.
As Grandma Doll got older, her eyesight worsened, making it difficult for her to thread a fine needle. Her hands also trembled, making it hard to sew neat stitches.
One day, she gathered all the scraps of fabric from her doll-making and pieced them together to create a little doll. This doll wasn’t made for sale; she hoped a child would truly love it and take it home.
The little doll was made from seven different colored fabrics: brown from a little bear, white from a bunny, red from a doll’s dress, and so on. You might think that such a multicolored doll would be very beautiful. Indeed, it was very beautiful, but Grandma Doll made it into a little wolf, a rainbow-colored little wolf.
No one knew why, but after finishing the wolf, Grandma Doll closed her shop and moved to the countryside.
And so, the rainbow-colored little wolf was left alone in the doll shop.
The door was open, and he was waiting for a child who would love him to take him home.
The rainbow wolf waited and waited in the shop, stretching his neck long, hoping that someone outside would see him at a glance.
Soon, someone did come—a mother with a little girl entered the shop. They looked around but didn’t find the dolls they wanted. There were no little bears, no bunnies, only a strange little doll standing there.
The curious child picked up the rainbow wolf and examined him closely. The mother also saw the doll and quickly snatched it from the child’s hands, glaring at it.
“What? It’s a wolf! Put it down!”
The child obediently followed her mother out of the shop.
The rainbow wolf was heartbroken. He didn’t understand why the child’s mother reacted that way. Was it simply because he was a wolf and not something else?
But soon he changed his mind. He believed there would be a child who liked him and didn’t care that he was a wolf. So he waited hopefully in the doll shop. However, countless times he was picked up and put down again, and ultimately, no one took him home.
The rainbow wolf lost hope. Maybe wolves weren’t meant to be loved. If I were a rainbow-colored puppy, perhaps it wouldn’t be like this!
The rainbow wolf decided not to wait in the doll shop anymore. He resolved to go to the prairie to find a wolf pack, to find his true companions.
He crossed streets, walked across lawns, traveled from the city to the countryside, and from the countryside to the wilderness, until he finally found a wolf pack.
The wolves looked at this creature in front of them with curiosity. He looked a lot like them, but why did he have so many colors? It was such a strange feeling!
“Hey, you little guy, are you really a wolf?”
“I am a wolf, a rainbow wolf.”
“To me, you just look somewhat like us. How can you prove you’re a wolf? If you’re really a wolf, show us by acting like one!”
“Look, like this!”
The leader bared his teeth, showing a fierce look.
The rainbow wolf tried to mimic him and bared his teeth too.
The wolves burst into laughter.
“Haha, look at him, what a ridiculous sight!”
The leader, clutching his laughing stomach, said, “Alright, since you look so pitiful, we’ll give you another chance. Go catch a lamb and eat it in front of us.”
“No, I won’t do that!”
“Then go catch a child!”
In the rainbow wolf’s mind flashed the eyes of all the children who had touched him in the doll shop, so clear and lovely. Although none of them had taken him home, but…
The rainbow wolf had never felt so sad.
“No, I won’t do that!”
He left the wolf pack in tears.
The rainbow wolf ran and ran. He didn’t know where he was going or where his home was.
Maybe, maybe I should find someone.
The rainbow wolf thought, maybe I should ask Grandma Doll why she made me into a wolf and not something else.
But where was Grandma Doll?
The rainbow wolf ran and ran, getting covered in mud and dirt, until he was exhausted and collapsed to the ground.
When he woke up, he found himself washed clean, lying in the arms of a child who was holding him tightly.
“Hey, my cute little wolf, you’re so different. Just like what I’ve always wanted. Not a little bear, not a bunny, not a tall giraffe, but a cute, rainbow-colored little wolf.”
The child said gently.
The rainbow wolf closed his eyes in peace.
Suddenly, he felt the thread at the corner of his mouth tighten, forming a 45-degree arc. It was a smile, so happy and warm.
