bedtime story for children
It started raining from the sky. The raindrops pitter-pattered on the ground, forming small streams. Gradually, the rain got heavier and heavier, and the raging floodwaters submerged the land.
The cat crouched on a big tree, surrounded by floods. He muttered to himself, “Has it rained enough? Thank goodness, let it clear up soon!”
But the rain kept pouring, showing no sign of stopping. The floodwaters quickly washed away the soil around the tree.
The cat clung to a tree branch and shouted loudly, “Help! The tree is going to fall! Help!” He dug his claws into the branch, holding on tightly.
But with a loud “boom,” the tree fell and began to float in the water. The cat muttered again, “Looks like I’m about to start a journey! The whole boat belongs to me now!”
At this moment, a round wooden barrel floated over on the waves. Inside the barrel was a pig. “Oink oink! The barrel is leaking, look, my belly is all wet!”
“Come up here!” the cat said to the pig.
The tree continued to float in the water.
“Look, there’s another one floating over! It’s a dog!” The dog was desperately paddling with his legs, swimming towards the tree.
Panting, he said, “Save me! I can’t swim anymore!” He had been in the water for a long time and was too exhausted to keep swimming.
So, the dog climbed up as well.
The pig oinked, “Now there are three of us! I wonder who the next lucky fellow will be.”
At this time, a rooster and a hen floated over in a pot. The iron pot spun like a top in the whirlpool. The hen looked terrified, clucking non-stop, while the rooster kept flapping his wings.
The rooster and hen shouted to the cat, “Take us with you! It’s so scary! We’ve been spinning and spinning, we’re dizzy and seeing stars…”
“Come on up!” the cat said to them.
So the rooster and hen climbed up, and the tree continued to float. Before long, the pig oinked again, “Look! Something else is floating over! Oh my! It’s a big one!” The hen clucked, “There’s a little one next to it too!” It turned out to be a big sheep lying on a tire, and a small mouse hiding in a milk can, floating towards the tree.
The sheep bleated, “Baa, is there any space left?”
“Of course!” the cat replied.
The mouse squeaked, “Can I come up too?”
The cat answered, “Sure! Come on up.”
So they all climbed up. At this point, the dog wrinkled his nose and sniffed the air. The sheep curiously asked, “Hmm, what do you smell?”
“I smell a soaking wet rabbit, curled up in a… hmm, a drawer!”
Sure enough, a rabbit floated over in a drawer, completely soaked, shivering from the cold.
Of course, the cat let him up too.
The hen shifted her position, standing on the other foot, thinking she still needed to lay an egg today. If only there was a nest. Just then, the rooster crowed, announcing three more companions to join them. It was a squirrel, a hedgehog, and a mole, though the mole had a cold and lay listlessly.
Of course, the cat let them all up too!
The tree continued to float along the floodwaters. Surely no one else would come now. But the cat immediately pointed to the water and said, “Look! There’s one more!”
Not far away, a creature with bright red fur and a sharp, long mouth floated over!
The rooster took one look and cried out in fear, “Don’t save him!” The rabbit shivered in fear, and the hedgehog quickly bristled. All the animals shouted in unison, “There’s no room here!” They all squeezed together, filling the
tree tightly, determined not to let him come up.
“No! Let him come up!” the cat said, pulling the creature up.
It turned out to be a fox.
At this moment, the hen nervously asked, “Are we there yet?”
“Where to?” Everyone was confused.
The hen replied, “To dry land! I need to lay an egg!”
“Ah! We need to figure out how to reach the shore! No one wants to stay on this tree all night!”
The animals were silent because no one wanted to stay on the water until morning, especially with a scary fox among them!
The cat said, “Alright, let’s head to shore! But does anyone know how?”
The fox responded, “I know what to do! Everyone put their tails in the water and paddle towards the shore together.”
“Hey! That’s a great idea! Let’s do it!”
They all paddled vigorously towards the land. Only the little mouse ran excitedly back and forth. Until the tree stopped on land, everyone then retracted their tails and dried them in the setting sun.
The fox was the first to jump off the tree trunk. The mole started digging a hole in the ground. The squirrel and the hedgehog bid everyone farewell loudly.
At this moment, the rooster crowed, “Look, there’s a house on the hill!”
The sheep bleated, “I want to go see it too!”
The pig oinked that he wanted to go, and the hen clucked, “I can surely find a nest to lay my egg there!”
The rabbit decided to find a warm burrow to sleep in!
The mouse thought there would surely be mouse holes there.
And the dog barked, deciding to take charge of everyone’s safety.
Lastly, the cat said, “Alright, let’s all go together!”
