Bedtime stories children
One night, Little Rabbit didn’t want to sleep. He wanted to find Little Frog to play with. Mama Rabbit shook her head and said, “Good child, go to sleep. Get up early tomorrow and go find Little Frog to play!”
Little Rabbit didn’t listen to his mama. He said, “I want to go, I want to go, I don’t want to sleep!” Mama Rabbit ignored him, sang a lullaby, and soon she herself was snoring and sound asleep.
Little Rabbit quietly jumped out of bed, quietly opened the door, quietly walked outside, and without looking back, ran off to find Little Frog to play.
Granny Moon peeked her face through the branches and smiled at Little Rabbit.
Little Rabbit thought, I sneaked out without telling Mama, I can’t let Granny Moon know, run, run. He ran for a while, looked back, and saw Granny Moon following him. Little Rabbit thought, I’m running too slowly, if I run very fast, she won’t be able to keep up. So Little Rabbit started running as fast as he could, but when he turned back to look, Granny Moon was still right behind him.
Little Rabbit was too tired, so he sat on a tree root to catch his breath. At this moment, Granny Moon also stopped and, peeking through the leaves, smiled and said, “Little Rabbit, it’s so late, where are you going? Go home and sleep.”
Little Rabbit didn’t talk to Granny Moon and quickly hid in the forest.
After hiding for a long, long time, Little Rabbit thought, Granny Moon should be gone by now, right? He peeked out and saw that Granny Moon was indeed gone. Little Rabbit was very happy and just as he was about to run, Granny Moon suddenly reappeared—it turned out she had been hidden by a cloud.
Granny Moon smiled at Little Rabbit and said, “Little Rabbit, why aren’t you going home? Aren’t you afraid the owl will bully you? Go home quickly!”
This time, Little Rabbit had to honestly tell Granny Moon, “Granny Moon, I’m going to find Little Frog to play.”
Granny Moon said, “No, you can’t go. I can see from here that Little Frogs are singing in the middle of the lake. How can you go there? Do you know how to swim?”
Little Rabbit said, “No, but I want to go.”
Granny Moon said, “Then how can you get to the middle of the lake? Come, I’ll lift you up to see for yourself.”
Little Rabbit let Granny Moon lift him high up, and he saw the lake filled with water lilies. Each water lily petal had a firefly perched on it, sparkling like tiny lanterns. A big frog was drumming hard, surrounded by a large circle of frogs, singing “ribbit ribbit”.
Little Rabbit watched and watched, endlessly fascinated. Granny Moon asked, “Have you seen enough?” Little Rabbit replied, “No.”
After watching a bit longer, Granny Moon asked again, “Have you seen enough now?” Little Rabbit answered, “Just a little longer.”
And so, he kept watching and watching, endlessly.
Finally, Granny Moon got angry and put Little Rabbit back in the forest. Little Rabbit had to say “Goodbye” to Granny Moon and went home.
Little Rabbit ran very fast, but not as fast as when he came. After a while, he looked up and saw Granny Moon still following him. Little Rabbit was unhappy and said to Granny Moon, “Granny Moon, why are you still following me? I’m going home, not playing anywhere else!”
Granny Moon smiled without saying a word, just watching Little Rabbit and following him to his doorstep. Little Rabbit said to Granny Moon, “Granny Moon, you don’t need to follow me anymore, I’m home. Thank you for keeping me company.”
Granny Moon smiled and said, “Good child, don’t be greedy for play anymore, go to sleep quickly.”
