Divorce

A couple had been married for over 20 years but decided to get a divorce. The reason was that since their marriage, they had been constantly arguing, always having disagreements, and their personalities were completely incompatible. If it weren’t for their children, they would have separated long ago. They finally saw their children reach adulthood and no longer needed their care.

To enjoy a peaceful life in their later years without enduring meaningless quarrels, they decided to divorce…

After the divorce, as they walked out of the civil affairs office, the man said, “Let’s have dinner together one last time.”

The woman thought, although they were divorced, there was no deep-seated hatred between them. Having a meal together should be fine…

They went into a restaurant and started eating. When the waiter brought a plate of sweet and sour fish, the man immediately took a piece of fish and offered it to the woman, saying, “Eat, this is your favorite dish.”

Unexpectedly, the woman, with teary eyes, said, “I’m so frustrated with you. You are always so self-righteous and chauvinistic, deciding everything without considering others’ feelings. After being married for so long, don’t you know that I’ve hated fish my whole life?”

At this point, the man choked up and said, “You never understood how much I care for you. Every moment, I think about how to make you happy. I always save the best for you. Do you know, sweet and sour fish has always been my favorite dish.”

Two people who loved each other so deeply were now facing separation because of communication issues. Was this a problem of love or marriage? After the meal, they parted ways, each walking in opposite directions, afraid of changing their minds. They agreed not to contact each other for a month.

After walking two blocks, the man’s phone rang. It was the woman calling. He hesitated for a long time but ultimately didn’t answer. That night, he couldn’t sleep, tossing and turning, tormented by burning pain in his heart. After much deliberation, he called his wife, wanting to express his regret, but no one answered.

After countless attempts, someone finally picked up, but it was a stranger: “Hello?”

The man’s heart felt like it was being cut with a knife. He was about to hang up in anger when the person on the other end spoke again, “Are you this lady’s husband? The phone displays ‘husband.'”

“Yes, I am her husband. Who are you?” he asked with obvious hostility.

“Oh, I am a doctor from XX hospital. Please come quickly; your wife was in an accident and is in critical condition.” It felt like a thunderbolt had struck him. He rushed to the hospital like an arrow. The woman had been hit by a speeding car shortly after their parting, lost in thought. Before losing consciousness, she had called him, but he didn’t answer.

“Doctor, how is my wife? Please, you must save her!” He knelt down in front of the doctor, who quickly helped him up, “We will do our best. She is in surgery now. Her head injury is severe; even if she wakes up, she might become a vegetable. Be prepared for the worst.”

The man paced anxiously in the empty hospital corridor. “If she dies, what will I do? How can I face myself?”

The light of the emergency room turned off.

Several doctors came out, with one doctor solemnly walking up to him, “We did our best. She might not make it through the night. Go see her and prepare for the worst. She can’t speak anymore.”

For the sake of pride, he had let his beloved die heartbroken. Dragging his feet, he entered the ward.

The woman on the bed was unrecognizable, her head wrapped in bandages, only her eyes and mouth exposed. The man, heartbroken, crawled to her bedside, “Dear, I’m late!” Before he could finish, tears overwhelmed him.

As he gently tried to hold her hand, he was surprised to find her eyes moist, tears seeping through the bandages. Her lips trembled as if she wanted to say something.

He quickly leaned in to listen, “I…called you just to…tell you…there are frozen dumplings in the fridge, and the insurance policy and passbook are in the bedside drawer. The password is your…birthday. And…I love…the noodles you made…I…love…” Before she could finish, her lips stopped moving, and she could no longer breathe the air of this world.

The man could no longer hold back his emotions and cried uncontrollably. Noodles! She remembered the noodles! In their many years of marriage, he had only once made noodles for her when she was sick, and they were terribly made!

A month later, the man opened the drawer and found the insurance policy. The policy date was their wedding anniversary, and he was the beneficiary. The amount wasn’t large, only 10,000 yuan, but there was a note inside, “Dear husband, when you find this policy, I should no longer be in this world.

No matter what happens in the future, whether we divorced or not, know that my love for you will never change. The responsibility of taking care of you will never end, even if I am gone. This insurance money will replace me in continuing to care for and love you, just as if I were still by your side. I am in heaven saying I love you!”

By then, the man was already sobbing uncontrollably. She had wanted to tell him “I love you” even until her last breath!

Life is so fragile and short. How many times can we say “I love you”? Pride and stubbornness mean nothing in the face of true love and life. Be more forgiving, tolerant, and understanding. Don’t let life end with such regrets! You might miss the last chance to hear “I love you” from the one who loves you deeply.

No amount of regret can bring back that last, most heartfelt declaration of love! What reason do we have not to tell our loved ones “I love you”? Let them know how much you care, that they are your oxygen, your life! Treat yourself well, because life is short.

Treat those around you well because you may not meet again in the next life! It takes a thousand years to cross the same boat, and ten thousand years to sleep in the same bed. Please cherish the simplest happiness around you!
