Love triangle
The girl and boy met on the first day of university. The girl was carrying heavy luggage, and the boy, being a gentleman, offered to help. From that moment, they became friends, and soon after, they became lovers.
However, after they started dating, the girl felt that their relationship had become distant. It wasn’t as casual as when they were just friends. When they were together, there was a faint feeling between them. There were no grand vows or romantic gestures. They would occasionally go for a walk on the street or stroll in the park.
As they walked, they rarely talked. He would walk silently in front, and she would follow quietly behind. Sometimes she wished he would turn around and hold her hand, thinking that would make her feel very happy. But he was oblivious and didn’t notice her thoughts.
Later, during their dates, the girl started bringing her roommate along. The roommate was lively and playful, making their outings less awkward. Eventually, what was supposed to be dates for two turned into outings for three.
One day, it was drizzling slightly. The three of them were in a small pavilion in the park, enjoying the rain. Suddenly, the ground shook violently, and screams of “earthquake” were heard in the distance. The boy reacted first, grabbed a hand, and started running.
The girl stood frozen in the pavilion, stunned. The boy had grabbed the roommate’s hand and ran off. Whether he did it intentionally or unintentionally, the girl’s heart sank.
Although the boy quickly came back to find her, the feeling of being abandoned had already taken root in her heart, choking her.
After that, the three of them never went out together again. When the boy asked the girl out, she didn’t invite her roommate. When the boy saw her alone, he stretched his neck and asked, “Where is she?”
The girl remained silent.
They didn’t speak another word all evening. The boy seemed distracted. The girl couldn’t stand the feeling any longer and asked loudly, “Do you like her? If you’re a man, tell the truth.”
She desperately wanted to hear him say no.
But he was silent, looking blankly at the distant sky. Slowly, he said, “Yes, I like her, but she won’t accept me because she doesn’t want to hurt you.”
The girl laughed, tears streaming down her face. Her mind was filled with many cruel thoughts—ruining them, making their lives miserable, exposing their betrayal to the whole school, drowning them in spit…
Her heart was tangled with these thoughts, and the pain numbed her entire body. She seemed to see the boy slapping her hard and shouting, “A vicious woman like you doesn’t deserve happiness and love.”
She also seemed to see her roommate, under the pressure of rumors, climbing to the rooftop, looking at her with despair… She shuddered and didn’t dare to think any further.
She looked up at the boy. His eyes were on the clouds drifting in the sky, and he didn’t see her at all. It seemed that love wasn’t something that could be claimed just because you arrived first. She clearly hadn’t entered the boy’s heart.
At that moment, the girl suddenly let go. She picked up the phone and called her roommate. The phone rang for a long time before she answered, her voice stiff and unlike before.
The girl said calmly, “You two be together. I once heard someone say that watching others fall in love can make you happy too. So you two must be happy because I will always be watching you.”
On the other end of the phone, the roommate said with a crying voice, “I’m sorry!” The girl decisively hung up the phone, waved it in front of the boy, and said freely, “Go after her!” Then she turned and walked away with big strides, afraid that others would see her tears.
