Nature children’s story

Miffy Bunny lived on a large hillside, and in front of her mushroom house was a spacious open area. Miffy Bunny especially loved standing on the open ground, gazing into the distance. However, something troubled Miffy Bunny: whenever it rained heavily, the soil in front of her door would quietly “run away.” Over time, the small mound in front of her door had noticeably shrunk. Miffy Bunny was puzzled: “Could it be that the soil doesn’t like staying on this big hillside and prefers to travel around like me?”

Gray Squirrel also lived on the large hillside, and beside his tree hole home, there were tall and short pine trees everywhere. Every year, the number of pine trees on the hillside increased, slowly growing onto the open space in front of Miffy Bunny’s house. Miffy Bunny was curious, wondering who planted these pine trees.

Unknowingly, Autumn had passed, and Winter’s arrival was near. As planned, Miffy Bunny was about to set off on her travels again. Gray Squirrel was also busy, storing pine cones everywhere, even burying them in the soil beside Miffy Bunny’s fence. Unlike before, Miffy Bunny returned home early this time.

Seeing Gray Squirrel in front of her door, Miffy Bunny was very surprised and asked, “What are you doing in front of my house? Are you trying to cause trouble?”

Gray Squirrel quickly explained, “Sister Bunny, no, I’m not causing trouble. I’m storing pine cones for the winter!”

Miffy Bunny asked in confusion, “Why are you storing so many? You’re even burying them in the soil beside my fence!”

Gray Squirrel replied, “Burying pine cones in the soil keeps them fresh, and storing more ensures I won’t go hungry in the winter!”

“But can you really find all of them when you need them?” Miffy Bunny asked.

Gray Squirrel cheerfully said, “I don’t need to find all of them because I can’t eat them all in one winter. And they won’t go to waste; the leftover pine cones will sprout in the spring and grow into little pine trees.”

“So, it was you who planted all those pine trees,” Miffy Bunny said. “Why did you plant so many? Look, they’ve grown right up to my doorstep.”

Gray Squirrel sincerely replied, “Planting pine trees has many benefits! The more pine trees around, the more pine cones I can collect in the winter, ensuring I won’t run out of food. And planting trees here can prevent soil erosion and beautify the environment…”

“Oh! No wonder when I passed by your house, I noticed the soil in front of your door hadn’t run away at all,” Miffy Bunny realized. It wasn’t that the soil didn’t like her place; it was just lacking protection.

From then on, Miffy Bunny and Gray Squirrel became good friends. They often planted trees together and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
