Short stories about stars
In the vast night sky, there are countless stars. Although they all appear tiny from Earth, many of them are actually enormous but seem small due to their great distance from us.
However, there is indeed one little star that is very, very small—only the size of a peanut. Everyone calls it “Little Star.”
“Little Star” always feels lonely because all the other stars have their own friends. Some even form constellations together. Perhaps because “Little Star” is so small, no other stars want to play with it.
One night before bed, “Little Star” listened to its mother tell a story. “In a faraway place,” she said, “there is a beautiful planet called ‘Earth,’ where everyone has their own friends.”
“Really?” “Little Star” was so excited that it couldn’t sleep. It longed to visit Earth!
In the middle of the night, while everyone else was asleep, “Little Star” secretly left the sky and flew towards Earth.
As it approached Earth, “Little Star” saw vast expanses of blue. That must be the “ocean” that Mother talked about! “Little Star” jumped into the ocean for a swim.
“Little Star” loved swimming in the ocean because there were countless little fish around. If just one of these little fish would be willing to be its friend, that would be enough!
“Little Star” did a somersault and dove to the ocean floor in search of a friend.
In the deep sea, “Little Star” saw a glowing fish, about the same size, and also twinkling. “Little Star” was so happy! Could this be its friend?
“Little Star” swam over to the glowing fish and said, “Hi there, friend! Will you be my friend?”
The glowing fish was startled by “Little Star’s” voice and asked, “Why do you want me to be your friend?”
“Little Star” replied, “Because we’re so alike!”
The glowing fish then asked, “If a big shark comes, will you help me escape?”
“Little Star” was taken aback. Although it had never seen a “big shark,” it could guess from the name that sharks were terrifying.
“Little Star” didn’t dare answer the glowing fish’s question, and the glowing fish swam away.
“Little Star” decided to go ashore to find a friend. It traveled from the ocean to the forest.
In the forest, there were lions, tigers, elephants, monkeys, giraffes, and many other animals. But “Little Star” thought they were too big and didn’t try to make friends with them.
At night, “Little Star” twinkled as it flew. In the distance, it saw another little “star” just like itself. How amazing! “Little Star” quickly flew over, but discovered it wasn’t a star—it was a firefly.
“We look so much alike!” “Little Star” said to the firefly. “Will you be my friend?”
The firefly was happy to be its friend. They played joyfully together in the forest.
As dawn approached, the firefly said, “Dear friend, I need to go home and sleep! Let’s come out and play again at night!”
“Little Star” said, “No, I haven’t had enough fun yet. Please don’t go home.”
The firefly replied, “I also want to keep playing with you, but I really need to go home!” With that, it flew away.
“Little Star” was heartbroken. It thought, “Why is it so hard to find a close friend?”
After resting for a while, “Little Star” decided to keep searching and try its luck again.
Along the way, it saw that sharks and pilot fish were friends, hermit crabs and sea anemones were friends, pea crabs and scallops were friends, crocodiles and plover birds were friends, wolves and jackals were friends…
“Little Star” finally understood a truth: Good friends don’t have to be the same size or look alike. As long as you treat friends sincerely, they will also treat you sincerely.
“Little Star” decided to return to the sky and find a bigger star to befriend, just like how the moon orbits the Earth and the Earth orbits the sun. They are definitely close friends.
