Unrequited love story
Once upon a time, there was a girl who liked a boy very much, but the boy hadn’t yet moved on from the shadow of his previous breakup. The girl silently accompanied and persevered, hoping to win the boy’s heart. Time flew by quickly, and the girl had been with the boy for two years. She had repeatedly experienced heartbreak because of the boy, who still couldn’t forget his past. However, the boy had actually fallen for the girl without realizing it. During those two years, many girls appeared in the boy’s life, but he knew they were just passing through, so he didn’t get involved with any of them.
The girl, however, was unwilling to give up and continued to persist. As the college entrance exams approached, the boy and girl grew closer, almost confirming their relationship. But the exams arrived, and they had no choice but to face them. After the exams, the boy returned to his hometown, as his mother had decided, and he couldn’t refuse. The girl stayed because her family was there, and she had to accompany her parents instead of him.
Not long after the boy returned, he noticed the girl’s replies became less frequent, and the distance between them grew again. Shortly after, they had a fight. The boy asked the girl if she would stay or leave, and she chose to stay. The boy wasn’t sure if she still loved him and said nothing more, perhaps hoping to give each other a chance to grow old together. It was then that the boy realized the girl had become an integral part of his life, and he couldn’t live without her.
However, the girl seemed to no longer want to love. Despite the boy repeatedly expressing his desire to be together, the girl avoided the topic. The boy began to regret not cherishing her, but it was too late. When he tried to fight for their relationship, the exam results came out. The boy didn’t do well, not because of his fault but because there was an issue with his test paper.
After rechecking with no results, he ultimately chose to attend a vocational college, while the girl achieved good results and went to her desired place. Thus, they were separated.
The boy still didn’t want to give up and kept trying to be with the girl, who continued to refuse with different reasons. Eventually, the girl seemed to vanish from the boy’s world. Not long after, the boy started school and tried to contact the girl. She replied, making him very happy, and they contacted each other daily, seemingly growing closer again.
A few days later, the boy asked the girl to be together again, but she said she didn’t want to love anymore. The boy understood it was because he hadn’t cherished her before. During the two years she waited for him, she had dated others but got hurt. Their contact became intermittent. Finally, one day, the boy decided to make one last attempt, but the girl’s response was that she didn’t like long-distance relationships. She didn’t want to wait for the rain to stop while others had someone holding an umbrella for them.
The boy was heartbroken. He didn’t want this either, and when he saw couples passing by, he would lower his head, light a cigarette, and think about her far away. Thus, their intermittent contact became the happiest time of his college life. He knew that while he smoked, she might be laughing and talking with another boy, but he refused to give up. His roommates advised him to quit smoking, but he couldn’t. It might be the only way to keep her in his heart.
In the end, the boy said, “Let’s end our relationship here and just be passersby in each other’s lives.” The girl scolded him, saying, “I waited for you for two years, and you can’t even wait a few months.” The boy suddenly realized that she had waited for him for two years, and he couldn’t wait for a few months.
But thinking about being single for those two years, he couldn’t help but ask, “How many boyfriends did you have during those two years? Does that count as waiting?” The girl’s answer made the boy completely clear-headed. She replied, “Didn’t I break up with them all because of you?” The boy conceded and chose to wait.
At this point, I don’t know how to continue writing. The girl might still love the boy and is testing him by continuously refusing. Or maybe she truly doesn’t love him anymore. After all, long-distance relationships are the greatest test of love. The girl knows she can’t hold on and chooses to refuse but doesn’t want to lose the boy, so she is confused and asks him to wait for her.
As for the ending, I don’t want to decide for them. Everyone has their preferences, so let the readers believe in the ending they have in their hearts. Whether it is a happy ending or gradually becoming strangers, isn’t that the uncertainty and joy of life?
