Educational story about nature
Little Swallow Fei Fei and his mother spent the whole day catching bugs. As it was getting dark, they prepared to go home.
However, Fei Fei was unhappy and asked, “Mom, why do we have to go home?”
“In the evening, the light is dim, making it hard to catch bugs! Besides, we are tired and need to go home and rest,” said his mother.
“But if we all go home and rest, who will catch the bugs?” Fei Fei muttered softly.
For several days in a row, Fei Fei couldn’t sleep well because he was worried that no one would catch the bugs at night.
Finally, one night, he decided to go out and see for himself.
As soon as he flew out the door, Fei Fei saw a bat swoop out from under the eaves with a “flap.”
“It’s so late, what are you doing out?” Fei Fei asked.
“I’m going to work!” the bat replied.
Fei Fei thought the bat was joking and asked, “What can you do when it’s so dark?”
“I’m going to catch bugs! At night, many pests come out to be active. As long as they run into me, they won’t survive.”
“But it’s pitch black, can you see?” Fei Fei asked.
The bat explained, “Our eyesight is weak, but our bodies can emit ultrasonic waves. When these waves hit objects, they bounce back, and we can receive them. This way, we can determine what’s ahead. If it’s a pest, we’ll quickly fly over and eat it in one bite.”
“You’re really amazing!” Fei Fei admired.
“You catch pests during the day, and I catch them at night. The pests have nowhere to escape,” the bat said happily before flying away.
It turns out that bats work at night, so Fei Fei could finally sleep soundly.
