The kitten was going to build a new house, and all his friends came to help.

“Hey-ho!” The elephant went to the forest and brought back logs one by one.

“Swish, swish!” The goat and the little dog sawed the logs into uniformly thick planks.

“Clang, clang!” The bear and the little rooster quickly nailed the planks together into a beautiful little house.

Sweat soaked their clothes, and the little kitten was very grateful. He said, “Once I decorate the house, I’ll invite everyone over.”

The kitten pasted cream-colored wallpaper on the walls, making the room bright; he hung pale yellow curtains on the windows, making the light soft; he laid a flower-patterned carpet on the floor, making it very comfortable to walk on.

Many days passed, and the friends asked the kitten, “Kitten, can we come visit today?”

The kitten said, “No, no, it’s raining, you’ll dirty the new house.”

A few days later, the friends asked again, “Kitten, it’s not raining today, can we come visit?”

The kitten said, “No, no, can’t you see it’s windy? You’ll dirty the new house.”

A few more days passed. It wasn’t raining, it wasn’t windy, the sun was shining, and the weather was warm. The kitten said, “Friends, please come visit my house!”

The friends were very happy, but the elephant thought for a moment and said, “The kitten has laid a carpet, let’s bring clean shoes.”

So, some carried new shoes, some wrapped freshly brushed clean shoes, and they happily went to the kitten’s house.

At the kitten’s doorstep, everyone changed into the clean shoes they brought. Just as they were about to enter, the kitten brought out a basin of water and said, “Wearing shoes will ruin the carpet. Everyone, take off your shoes and wash your feet before coming in!”

The elephant and the bear looked at their feet, then at the small basin, and shook their heads, “Forget it, we’re not going in!” The goat, the little dog, and the little rooster saw the elephant and the bear leave, and said, “We won’t go in either!”

From then on, no one ever visited the kitten’s house again, and no one wanted to play with the kitten anymore. Every day, the kitten’s only companion was his new house.

Children, being too strict and picky with friends will only lead to losing all of them. Treating friends with tolerance will make everyone like you.
