The Singing Stomach

One day, a bear found a piece of music watch lying on the grass. He had never seen such a thing before and thought it was candy, so he put it in his mouth. Unexpectedly, the entire watch slipped into his stomach.

From then on, every hour, the bear’s stomach would play a cheerful tune, singing a delightful song. At first, the bear was frightened, but then he became very proud of it.

He patted his stomach and said to the monkey, “Monkey, my stomach can sing, can you believe it?”

The monkey said, “I don’t believe it, let me hear it sing.”

The bear said, “Just wait.” Sure enough, after a while, his stomach started to chime again. The sound was beautiful, like a crisp piano piece.

Soon, the whole forest was buzzing with excitement. The squirrel, the elephant, the chicken, the deer, and the panda teacher all came. Some surrounded the bear, while others pressed their ears to his stomach, holding their breath to listen to the sounds coming from inside. Oh, it was wonderful! The bear’s stomach could sing, and it sang so beautifully!

The panda teacher said, “Bear, how can your stomach sing? Can you tell us?”

The bear told everyone how he accidentally swallowed the music watch.

The panda teacher said, “Great, from now on, let the bear be our timekeeper. With him, no one will be late for school.”

The squirrel said, “Right, we just need to listen to the bear’s stomach to know when to wake up and when to sleep.”

From then on, the bear’s stomach became the forest’s timekeeping station. Whenever the music watch chimed, the animals knew it was time to wake up, go to school, eat, and go to bed. Their lives became orderly, and they were very happy, always smiling.

But just a month later, the bear suddenly fell ill and was hospitalized for many days without returning. The animals were in disarray: the deer was at school, the monkey was just waking up, the elephant had just finished eating, and the chicken was already in bed. What to do?

While everyone was worried, the clever monkey came up with an idea: “Let’s all buy a music watch and swallow it ourselves. That way, even if someone gets sick, we won’t have to worry.”

“Yes, that’s a good idea!” everyone agreed. Each animal bought a singing music watch.

The monkey said, “I’ll go first.” He threw the watch into his mouth and crunched it, but the watch shattered.

The chicken said, “Let me try.” She put the watch in her mouth but couldn’t swallow it. Her throat was too small.

The squirrel also tried, but his watch was a music alarm clock, too big to swallow.

The deer’s watch got stuck in her throat, and she couldn’t breathe until the chicken used her beak to pull it out. Only the elephant managed to get a watch into his stomach using his trunk, but no one could hear it sing because the elephant’s skin was too thick.

In the end, some watches broke, some couldn’t be swallowed, and some couldn’t be heard. The animals were distressed and went to the panda teacher for help.

The panda teacher laughed, “There are many ways to solve a problem. Why must you do it the same way as others? And you shouldn’t eat watches! The bear accidentally swallowed the watch, and now it’s causing trouble in his stomach. He had surgery to remove it and is still recovering in the hospital.”

Everyone realized their mistake and quickly got rid of the watches they had swallowed. But how to wear the watches now?

After thinking it over, they came up with better ideas.

The monkey bought a watch with a colorful band and wore it on his wrist like a beautiful bracelet.

The chicken bought a gold necklace and hung the watch on it, turning it into a necklace watch.

The squirrel placed his watch on the table, where a little bird on the clock face flapped its wings with each tick, making the squirrel giggle.

The elephant embedded his watch in a pen and put it in his pocket, looking even more dignified.

The deer used her watch as a button on her clothes, making it look like a flower on her chest.

From then on, the five music watches would chime together, playing beautiful melodies and singing harmonious songs. The animals’ lives became orderly again. Not long after, the bear was discharged from the hospital. The monkey ran to him, eager to hear the song from his stomach again.

The bear told everyone, “I can’t listen to the song in my stomach anymore. The watch almost killed me. Those days, my stomach hurt so much. The doctor said the watch was causing trouble in my stomach, damaging my stomach lining, and had to be removed with surgery.”

The bear also said, “I want to buy a watch like everyone else.” So, did the bear wear his watch on his wrist or around his neck? Or did he come up with an even better idea?
