Love Story That Makes You Cry: Accompanying the Angel’s Left Wing
On top of the mountain, alone, he gazed into the distance, at the scene, the mountain, the person…
A lively boy, sitting cross-legged on the lawn, gestured with his hands as he recounted his past.
He came from a remote village elementary school, where the teaching resources were poor, and there were very few teachers. He went to school there when he was very young. From the first time he stepped on the path of learning, he diligently read the knowledge recorded in the books, eager to discover something. He listened attentively during lessons, developing good study habits, and his grades only improved. He gained the attention of his teachers and the admiration of his classmates.
One day, a little girl asked him a difficult question, and he patiently explained it to her. She listened intently, sometimes nodding, sometimes shaking her head. The girl was originally very quiet, but she became cheerful after that and often sought him out to discuss study and life. They became increasingly familiar with each other. The girl seemed particularly fond of him. They often played together, studied together.
One day, during a family gathering at his house, his uncle asked him, “Nephew, do you have someone you like?” “I like my mom and dad,” he said loudly. His parents were very pleased. But then he added, “I also like the girl in our class; she’s very smart. We often play together, study together.” This immediately brought laughter from everyone present. He was still young, so everyone just laughed it off.
Winter break arrived, and the children were very happy. He too had a broad smile on his face. But the girl seemed about to cry. He went to her side and whispered in her ear to comfort her, telling her not to cry. Outside, the maple tree had lost all its leaves, standing bare and lonely, with no other trees or grass around it.
The girl held his hand tightly, pointing to the bare maple tree and said, “I’m afraid we will be separated, I’m afraid I’ll be as lonely as that maple tree.” A gust of wind made the maple tree sway. He looked at the girl and said, “We won’t be separated.” A few dark clouds drifted over, and raindrops began to fall, soon forming a curtain of rain. He held the girl’s hand and ran towards the classroom, but their hands got wet, and their clothes were slightly damp. He pointed to his beloved notebook and said to the girl, “Pour the ink on your left hand!” As he spoke, he handed a bottle of ink to the girl’s right hand, gently placing it in her palm.
Without hesitation, she poured it. He also picked up a bottle of ink and poured it on his right hand. He pressed his right hand onto the notebook, and the girl placed her left hand next to his. He carefully picked up a page of the notebook and said to the girl, “Keep this; I will always be with you.” The girl carefully put it away. He smiled foolishly at the girl, and she smiled back, her smile so bright and innocent.
The rain stopped, and they squatted under the eaves, washing the ink from their hands. He looked at the girl and said, “I hope the teacher doesn’t leave here!” The girl nodded slightly.
Time passed quickly. He gently let go of the girl’s hand and said, “You should go home now, or your aunt will worry.” The girl originally wanted to hold his hand again but stopped. Happily, she said to him, “Today is my happiest day. It’s so nice to be with you!” She deliberately paused, as if waiting for him to say something. “No, it won’t be. You’ll be happier in the future, whether you’re with me or not, remember!” he said sincerely. His brows revealed determination despite his young age.
The girl nodded seriously. “Goodbye, have a happy New Year. I’ll miss you.” The girl started running towards her home, calling out as she went. He watched her back, and just as it was about to disappear, he shouted loudly, “Remember, I’ll always be with you, my right hand will always accompany you.”
During the New Year, he heard that the school had finally closed. His heart ached, and tears welled up in his eyes. He felt so helpless.
After the New Year, he went to the girl’s house to find her, but her grandmother said she had gone away with her parents and might not return. He cried a few times secretly at home. His parents found a school for him in the town. When school started, he left his hometown with a bit of reluctance.
In the first class of the new term, he started daydreaming, thinking about the girl, and after a while, he whispered in his heart, “I will come to find you in the future. I will study hard, earn enough money to find you.” Then he began to study seriously.
As time passed, the girl’s image in his mind became more and more blurry, and gradually he was immersed in the sea of study. Perhaps he had already forgotten the girl!
Years later, at a gathering, he unexpectedly noticed a familiar figure. He recalled the girl and the happy times they had together kept flashing in his mind. He approached the figure and politely said, “Ma’am, hello!” The woman turned around, first skeptical, then surprised. She asked, “Is it really you?” Seeing that she recognized him, he nodded slightly.
The woman held his hand and rushed out of the crowd to a quiet place, recounting everything after she left her hometown, and expressing her longing for him. But when she finally said she was already married, he was in great pain—was his waiting only to end this way? He couldn’t help but feel heartbroken.
The answer was yes. She urged him not to be like this, saying she wasn’t the best, but in his heart, there was only that girl from those years. Can time wash away everything? Impossible. It took him a long time to recover. His heart finally calmed down, accepting all the facts. After all, it was already a foregone conclusion.
After bidding farewell to the host, he returned home alone. Standing on the balcony, he looked at the city’s night scene, lost in thought. Life is full of unexpected events; fate is so cruel!
He took out his once beloved notebook, looking at the childish left handprint and reminiscing about something, murmuring in his heart, “I will always be with you, accompanying your left hand.”
The sky was dark, the wind was bleak, the grass swayed, and the last dead leaf of autumn drifted far away in the wind. He put the notebook into his backpack, but carelessly didn’t zip it properly. Walking alone on the road, suddenly, an angel’s left wing poked out of the backpack, slowly flying into the sky, disappearing into the horizon after a long time.
