Through Hardships Together

Mo Mei and An Sheng are the epitome of a self-made couple.

To this day, Mo Mei can clearly recall the tough times when she and An Sheng first got together. Back then, we were truly penniless—without even a dining table or a bed! When we finally had a spare 100 yuan, we immediately went to the East Suburb Market to buy a table. Of course, we couldn’t afford a taxi, so we carried it back ourselves, resting every few steps, but we were incredibly happy.

At that time, we felt that being able to sit on a stool and eat at a table was sheer bliss! There was another time when the two of us had only 50 cents left. Desperate, we called one of An Sheng’s friends to borrow money. We didn’t have mobile phones then, so we had to use a public phone. After making the call, our 50 cents turned into 20 cents. Fortunately, his friend agreed to lend us money; otherwise, we would have gone hungry.

Of course, Mo Mei can joyfully recount these past hardships because their lives have greatly improved since then. After getting married, Mo Mei opened an online store specializing in baby products. She handled customer service, purchasing, and shipping all by herself, working from dawn till dusk.

An Sheng joined an advertising company as a graphic designer, starting as a junior assistant. He took on the tasks that others were unwilling to do or found too demanding. Late at night, the two of them each occupied a computer, working away. During breaks, Mo Mei would get up to wash two apples, hand one to An Sheng, and the exhausted couple would collapse on the sofa, munching on apples as a form of rest.

After finishing their apples, they would continue their hard work. By the third year, An Sheng had been promoted to the company’s design director, and Mo Mei’s online store, thanks to her meticulous management, was thriving, with monthly profits reaching 20,000 to 30,000 yuan. Their financial situation improved rapidly. Now, they own three houses, two cars, and various investments—they’re doing quite well, especially considering they’re only in their early thirties and still young.

Since their lives have improved, the most common thing Mo Mei hears is: “Watch your husband closely. He’s handsome and wealthy, and many young girls have their eyes on him! Don’t think that just because you’ve been through hard times together, your relationship can withstand anything. Many couples can endure hardships but can’t share the sweetness!”
