A Touching Story about Family
One afternoon, an old professor told us a story during a general course lecture: There was a king with three sons. He loved them dearly but didn’t know to whom he should pass the throne. In the end, he asked his three sons to express how they would show their love for their father.
The eldest son said, “I will turn your virtues into a hat, so that the people of the entire country will wear it every day and sing your praises.”
The second son said, “I will turn your virtues into shoes, so that people all over the world cannot do without you and will understand that it is you who supports them.”
The third son said, “I just want to keep you as an ordinary father in my heart forever. I will repay your love with my own efforts.” In the end, the king passed the throne to the third son.
After the professor finished the story, he asked, “Students, raise your hand if you remember your parents’ birthdays.” Very few hands were raised.
“Raise your hand if you have washed your parents’ feet during the winter break.” This was an assignment he had given before the break, and those who didn’t do it would lose moral education points.
Dozens of hands shot up, except for one student sitting in the last row, who did not raise his hand.
“Did you ignore my instructions?” The professor asked, a bit annoyed.
“I really wanted to wash my parents’ feet, but…”
“But what? Don’t make excuses for yourself!” the professor said sternly.
“My parents lost their feet in a car accident, so I can only wash their hair…”
The air froze at that moment, and the classroom was so silent that you could hear a heartbeat.
“Remember, the position of love is not in the mouth, not on the head, not under the feet, but in the heart, in the small actions through which we constantly care for others.”
