An Unsent Letter

Leipold is the planning manager at a famous fashion company. Six months ago, Lace, one of the company’s models, launched a fierce love offensive towards him. In the face of the youthful and sexy Lace, his ten-year marriage with his wife, Jenny, fell apart, and he became a captive of Lace’s sweet words.

The novelty and excitement of the affair made it hard for Leipold to return to his previous life, and he reciprocated with all his might. Despite Lace’s average talent, she quickly became the fastest-rising model among all. To hold on to Leipold more tightly, Lace proposed marriage.

Having experienced a long and uneventful marriage, Leipold also longed for a completely new way of life. However, Jenny, as a housewife, had never shown any signs of infidelity in their nearly ten-year marriage.

Leipold tried desperately to find faults in Jenny but couldn’t help but recall their many shared moments and felt touched by her meticulous care.

While Leipold hesitated, Lace intensified her seduction to encourage him to divorce. On one side was the charming lover, on the other was the gentle wife, and Leipold did not know how to choose. Several times, he felt guilty and wanted to confess to Jenny, but in the face of his innocent and unaware wife, he couldn’t utter a single word he had prepared.

A few days later, on a weekend, Leipold had to go out of town to discuss a fashion project. He told Jenny that he might not be back for a week. Unexpectedly, on the way, Leipold’s car collided with another vehicle.

The other car was moving too fast, and Leipold didn’t have time to react before his head hit the steering wheel heavily. Leipold was severely injured, with blood pressing on his brain nerves, and he fell into a coma.

Upon hearing about her husband’s car accident, Jenny rushed to the hospital. No matter how she called out to him, Leipold, lying in the hospital bed, did not respond. Seeing Jenny’s sadness, the doctor’s voice was heavy: “Your husband’s coma is very difficult to wake from relying solely on medical intervention.

However, if he is cared for attentively and spoken to frequently to stimulate his nerves, he might suddenly wake up.” Hearing this, Jenny resolved to use her true feelings to wake her husband.

While organizing Leipold’s belongings, Jenny found a letter in his suitcase. The envelope bore her husband’s handwriting with their address and her name. The stamp was not postmarked, indicating it was an unsent letter.

“What could the letter say?” Jenny gazed at her husband’s familiar handwriting. Suddenly, she remembered something, and tears welled up in her eyes: “Oh my God, I didn’t realize that the day after tomorrow is our tenth wedding anniversary. This must be a love letter from Leipold to me.” Every year at this time, Jenny would receive a gift from Leipold.

Her husband loved romance, and last year’s anniversary was spent by the sea, with beautiful sunsets, the sound of waves crashing, and seagulls calling, replaying in Jenny’s mind like a movie.

Jenny did not open the letter. She went to Leipold’s bedside, trying to hold back her sobs. She leaned close to his ear and gently whispered, “Dear, I found the letter you wrote to me in your luggage. I know this is your anniversary gift for me.

I will wait for you to wake up and read every word you wrote to me yourself. No matter how long it takes, I will wait for you to open this letter.”

So, while taking care of the comatose Leipold, Jenny tirelessly recounted their courtship and the sweet moments in their marriage. She put the letter back in the suitcase, deciding to open it after her husband woke up.

Time passed as Jenny meticulously cared for Leipold day by day. One day, while Jenny was continuing her stories, she noticed that Leipold, who had been in a coma for six months, slowly opened his eyes. Jenny couldn’t help but burst into tears of joy.

Since just waking up, Leipold’s body was still very weak, relying on Jenny’s care. Seeing Jenny without a single complaint, Leipold felt deeply moved and ashamed of his past betrayal.

A week later, as Leipold’s condition improved, Jenny began to update him on the fashion company’s situation. She mentioned that a new planning manager had been appointed three months ago and that she had heard a model named Lace was getting close to the new manager.

Hearing Lace’s name made Leipold’s heart race. He had already learned from friends and family that Jenny had taken care of him with great dedication over the past six months. During these days of recovery, he had been thinking about how to face his wife and ask for her forgiveness.

Leipold thought about his letter. Jenny must have read it by now; it was time for him to come clean. Finally, he mustered the courage to hold Jenny’s hand tightly and said, “Dear, I’m sorry. I want to tell you about that letter…”

Jenny covered Leipold’s mouth with her hand. “No, don’t apologize. I think that letter was meant to be your gift to me for our tenth wedding anniversary, just like you’ve done in the past years, right?”

Hearing his wife’s gentle words, Leipold was stunned, unable to interrupt. “You know, I’ve never opened that letter. I wanted to wait until you woke up to read it to me yourself. I’m so glad that day has finally come.”

Leipold bowed his head deeply, not daring to meet his wife’s eyes. The letter in the suitcase was his divorce agreement to his wife. Six months ago, his desire for a new life made him choose Lace in the end. But he couldn’t bear to propose the divorce face-to-face. Leipold decided to send the agreement by letter.

The trip was specially arranged; he planned to mail the letter and then go to Lace’s place, waiting until Jenny calmed down before returning home. Unexpectedly, he had an accident on the way to the post office.

“Thank God the letter wasn’t sent. Thank this car accident for making me realize what I should cherish,” Leipold silently but firmly repeated to himself. Outside, the sun was about to set, and lights were starting to come on in the residential area opposite.

Leipold held his wife’s hands tightly: “Dear, I want to go home. From now on, I will write every day like a love letter to you. I want to tell you how much I love you.”
