The Rabbit Who Didn’t Understand Sharing
One day, the little rabbit went to the carrot field, planning to pull out some delicious carrots. The little rabbit pulled and pulled… but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t pull them out.He huffed and puffed,
“Heave-ho! Heave-ho!”
Before long, the little rabbit was drenched in sweat, but when he looked at the carrots, they were still buried in the ground. The little rabbit was so angry that he jumped up and down.
The little cat was carrying a full bucket of fish and heading home. This was the little cat’s harvest. On his way home, the little cat saw the little rabbit struggling to pull out the carrots in the field. Warm-hearted, the little cat went over to help. Together, they pulled,
“Heave-ho! Heave-ho!”
Finally, the carrot was pulled out.
“Wow! What a big carrot!” the little cat exclaimed in surprise. The little rabbit quickly hugged the big carrot and said, “This is my carrot. You are not allowed to take it.”
The little cat scratched his head and said, “I didn’t want to take it. I just wanted to help. We are friends.”
The little rabbit ignored the little cat and carried the big carrot home alone. The little rabbit thought to himself, “I won’t share my carrot with you!”
The next morning, when the little rabbit opened his door, he saw a bucket at his doorstep. Inside the bucket were two fresh fish, a gift from the little cat. The little rabbit remembered that the little cat had caught a lot of fish yesterday and had specially shared two with him.
The little rabbit recalled how selfish he had been the previous day, taking the carrot all for himself. The little cat not only didn’t get angry but also shared his fish with him.
Feeling ashamed, the little rabbit brought the big carrot from yesterday to the little cat’s house. The little rabbit said to the little cat, “I’m sorry. I was too selfish. This carrot is for you.”
The little cat smiled and said, “Let’s eat it together! Good friends should share.”
The little rabbit found that the carrot was sweeter and more delicious than usual because the taste of sharing is sweet and wonderful.
