Tempting Apples and Oranges

On a hillside lived a little bear.

At the bottom of the hill lived a little monkey.

In front of the little bear’s house, there was an apple tree full of big, red apples, which looked very tempting.

In front of the little monkey’s house, there was an orange tree full of yellow, juicy oranges, which made anyone drool at the sight.

The little bear thought, “The little monkey is really stingy, with a tree full of oranges, and he won’t even give me one to eat!”

The little monkey thought, “The little bear is really stingy, with so many apples, and he won’t even give me one to eat!”

Day after day, the little bear and the little monkey both craved each other’s fruits and thought each other was stingy.

One day, a gust of wind blew, and a big, red apple fell from the tree and rolled down the hill. It rolled and rolled until it stopped in front of the little monkey’s house and rolled inside.

The little monkey was inside and saw the big apple roll into his house. He was very touched and thought, “I misunderstood the little bear. He isn’t stingy at all. He sent down such a big apple for me to eat!”

The little monkey happily ate the apple and thought, “I should also give something to the little bear! What should I give? Oh yes, oranges!”

The little monkey picked two big, yellow oranges, climbed up the hill, and went into the little bear’s house. “Little bear, I’m giving you two of my oranges!”

“Oh, thank you!” The little bear took the oranges and was very touched.

The next day, the little bear climbed the apple tree, picked a basket of apples, went down the hill, and went into the little monkey’s house…

On the third day, the little monkey picked a basket of oranges, climbed up the hill, and went into the little bear’s house…

From then on, whenever they had something delicious, the little bear and the little monkey would always give each other a portion.

The little bear happily thought, “The little monkey is really warm and generous. It’s great to have him as a neighbor!”
