Goodbye, Old Peng Story

“The south is off-limits!
The north is off-limits!
The east is off-limits!
The west is off-limits!”

Hmph, I don’t believe it!

I am a red pony, and my name is Xiao Nuo.

I have four legs that can take me anywhere I want to go. However, I can’t go anywhere because Old Peng won’t allow it.

Old Peng is a big red horse; he is my father. Old Peng says: You can’t go to the Arctic, there are lots of ice monsters there; you can’t go to the Antarctic, there are lots of monsters whose bodies are made of ice; you can’t go east, there are terrible swamps there; you can’t go west, there are scary witches there.

I know Old Peng is trying to scare me. Hmph, I’m not a little fool! I’ve seen many picture books and I know that there are polar bears in the Arctic, penguins in the Antarctic, pandas in the east, and kangaroos in the west.

I was very angry with Old Peng, so I decided to sneak away from home. Goodbye, dear Old Peng!

I wanted to visit the penguins in the Antarctic first.

At first, my journey went smoothly. Then, I entered a black forest. Soon, I got lost in this black forest…

I suddenly remembered those stories about the black forest: many people got trapped in the black forest and never got out. I was so scared! So, when I saw an eagle swooping down from the sky, I was overjoyed.

The eagle took me out of the black forest. It stared at me for a long time with its shining eyes. The gaze was so familiar…

The eagle suddenly flew away, and then I realized: its feathers were red! Oh, that eagle must be Old Peng. Could he have been following me all along?

I continued heading south… heading south…

My four hooves were bleeding, and bleeding would kill me. If I died, I would never see Old Peng again. I couldn’t help but cry out loud.

Suddenly, I noticed the big tree next to me. Its leaves were long and soft, and they emitted a faint medicinal fragrance. I picked a few and applied them to my hooves, and the wounds immediately felt much better. At that moment, I felt big drops of water falling on my face. When I looked up, I saw that the big tree was crying, and one drop fell into my mouth. The taste was so familiar… Oh, the tree trunk was red, it was Old Peng again!

I suddenly started to miss home, miss it very much. I wanted to rush home, but I was afraid Old Peng would laugh at me.

Just then, a two-headed monster appeared. I always thought I wasn’t afraid of monsters, but seeing a real monster made me tremble with fear…

A big red horse suddenly rushed out from nowhere. He raised his front hooves and let out a loud roar at the monster, scaring it away.

Oh, dear Old Peng!

I sat on Old Peng’s back, obediently letting him take me home.

Old Peng has four long and strong legs that can take him anywhere.

Next time, when I am as brave and strong as Old Peng, I will still venture out into the world. Then, I will remember to ask Old Peng for permission.
