Little Animals Waiting for the Bus
The sun hung high in the sky like a giant fireball. There wasn’t a single cloud or a hint of wind.
Here was a bus stop with no shade from trees or shelter. The little squirrel and the little cat were waiting for the bus. They were wiping sweat and fanning themselves, thinking, “It would be great if a breeze could blow.”
The little yellow dog and the panda came to wait for the bus as well. The scorching sun made them pant. They were hoping, “It would be great if it could rain.”
The little kangaroo and the little monkey also came to wait for the bus. They were eating ice pops, looking up at the fiery sun, thinking, “It would be great if clouds could block the sun.”
At this moment, an elephant walked over from the pond. Hey! The elephant was also here to wait for the bus!
The elephant walked to the bus stop, looked at the little friends in line, and stood in front of the little squirrel.
“Brother Elephant, please line up to get on the bus!”
“Brother Elephant, you need to queue up to get on the bus!”
Everyone was murmuring. The elephant seemed not to hear and stood at the front, deliberately straightening his tall body. Everyone was very unhappy, but what could they do? Who had the strength to drag the elephant away?
Quietly, everyone was waiting for the bus. Suddenly, the little kangaroo and the little monkey felt that the sun was really blocked by clouds, and it became cool and shady.
They looked up and, ha, it wasn’t a cloud, it was the elephant’s body, like a small mountain, blocking the sun.
“Swish, swish, swish!” Huh, where did this rain come from? It felt so nice on their bodies. The little yellow dog and the panda looked up and saw that it was water sprinkled from Brother Elephant’s trunk.
“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.” Huh, where did this wind come from? It felt so cool on their bodies. The little cat and the little squirrel looked up and saw that the wind was being fanned by Brother Elephant’s big ears.
Everyone looked at the elephant and laughed. They felt they shouldn’t have grumbled at Brother Elephant earlier.
“Toot, toot”—the bus arrived. Everyone let the elephant get on first. The elephant said, “I didn’t line up. You all get on the bus first!” Everyone felt very embarrassed. But what could they do? Who had the strength to push the elephant onto the bus?
One by one, the friends got on the bus, but the elephant didn’t get on. The door closed, and he waved his long trunk at the little friends on the bus and slowly walked back towards the pond.
The friends on the bus then understood Brother Elephant’s good intentions. They stuck their heads out, waved, and shouted, “Thank you, Brother Elephant!”
