Tears of Happiness
He was a painter, and she was a professional model.
They met by chance at a party and fell in love at first sight.
He was very romantic, knowing how to touch her heart with flowers, jewelry, candlelight dinners, and moonlit walks. He also knew how to make her swoon with heartfelt declarations, making her willingly lie on his bed covered with rose petals.
After getting her, he quickly discovered that she lost the pride he admired and became like other ordinary women, wanting to keep him by her side forever. This made his attitude towards her cool instantly because, in his view, as long as there was mutual consent, sleeping together was a matter of mutual desire. There was no need for responsibility since they were both adults.
But she didn’t think that way. She was traditional and devoted, believing that if a man and woman slept together, they must get married and have a result. She knew he was carefree, unrestrained, and valued freedom, disliking the constraints of marriage. But she believed in love and thought that if he loved her, he would sacrifice for her.
With tears in her eyes, she asked, “Didn’t you say you love me very much?”
He helplessly shook his head and said, “Baby, loving you very much doesn’t necessarily mean we have to get married. Isn’t it good as we are now? Each of us has our own space. We can be together when we want and separate when we don’t. That’s the only way love can stay fresh.”
Before he finished speaking, she was already in tears, pitifully grabbing his arm, saying, “No, I want to marry you.”
He impatiently withdrew his hand and said, “Okay, okay, but I’m very busy right now and have to go on a business trip for a few days. Baby, wait for me to come back…”
He avoided her. No matter how she searched, she couldn’t find him. She was heartbroken and desperate, even contemplating suicide. But at that moment, she discovered she was pregnant. She wanted to abort the child but couldn’t bring herself to do it.
The pregnancy took a toll on her, making it impossible for her to continue modeling. Unemployed, she clung to her last hope of finding him. But after asking all his friends, no one would tell her where he was. She didn’t give up and waited at the places he frequented until one of his friends, feeling sorry for her, secretly gave her an address.
She found him according to the address, and he was using rose petals to decorate a bed for another girl.
Seeing her arrive with a big belly, he sneered and said, “Don’t think you can use the child to threaten me. Name your price!”
His words enraged her. She slapped him hard and turned to leave, forcing back her tears with stubbornness.
Perhaps it was karma. Ten years later, he fell ill. He was lying at home, dying, with no one to take care of him. When she heard the news, she came silently to care for him. For the sake of their child and to prove the happiness of marriage and her beliefs, she came to his side.
However, he thought she was there to mock him, so he awkwardly yelled at her to leave. She didn’t leave and continued to care for him silently and meticulously. He was moved to tears, holding her hand, saying, “I wronged you… Now I’m burdening you… I’m not at ease…”
She didn’t look into his eyes and replied calmly, “Cooperate with the treatment, get better soon, and you won’t burden me anymore.”
He nodded, tears silently streaming down his face.
One day, she brought their son to see him. He wept, wanting to acknowledge his son.
But she told their son, “Son, call him uncle.”
The boy obediently called out, “Uncle!” and then ran off to play.
Embarrassed, he asked, “Why don’t you let him recognize me?”
She calmly said, “I told our son that his father is dead…”
He fell completely silent.
After a period of treatment, they went to the hospital for a check-up. The doctor brought worse news: the muscles in his legs had atrophied, and he might never stand up again.
The news hit him like a ton of bricks. Desperate, he tried to climb out of the window to end it all, but at that moment, he heard a clear voice, “Daddy…”
He froze, turned around, and saw her and their son standing behind him, both with tears streaming down their faces.
Later, with her insistence, they got married. After the marriage, he began to understand that marriage is not a constraint or a monster. Marriage can bring tears of happiness.
