Story: Temptation of the Devil
The devil wandered in the human world, seeking interesting things. She often transformed into various beautiful women, causing countless glances wherever she went.
One evening, the devil slowly walked along a gravel path and saw a couple arguing. The man belittled the woman, who could only cry with her face covered, too scared to retort. Finding it amusing, the devil pretended to trip over a stone just as the man looked her way. Seeing her, his expression softened, and he quickly approached, asking, “Miss! Are you okay?” His tone was completely different from before, now gentle enough to melt.
The devil leaned on the man, pretending her foot was injured, and tearfully said, “I can’t walk.”
Without hesitation, the man lifted her up, ignoring the wounded eyes behind him.
He escorted the devil home, but she didn’t invite him in. Instead, she smiled and bid him farewell. Reluctantly, the man left, but as soon as he did, the devil stood up on her own. Yes, she had feigned the injury. She wanted to play a trick on this man, who bullied women. Ah, what a spectacle it would be! The devil smirked with wicked satisfaction.
From then on, the man often lingered outside the devil’s house with flowers in hand. Whenever he saw her, he approached eagerly, but the devil paid him no mind, reminding him he had a wife and she wouldn’t destroy a family.
The man pleaded, “I’ll divorce her, right away.”
The devil smiled coquettishly, leaning against the man and saying, “It seems you truly love me. Here’s the deal: to show your sincerity, I won’t look at your divorce papers yet. Instead, I want you to give me one hundred thousand. No money, no discussion.”
Dejected, the man left. The next day, he returned with the money, stacks of fresh bills laid before the devil. She smiled like a flower. She agreed to date the man, which thrilled him.
But when the man went to find her the next day, she was nowhere to be found. He was dumbfounded. He had gambled everything, even mortgaging his house and emptying his savings, for this woman, and now…
He didn’t know what to do. He realized he didn’t even know her phone number, let alone her friends or workplace. Where could he find her? Once again, he collapsed in despair, realizing it was all over. He had nothing left.
Lost and distraught, he climbed to the rooftop, gazing at the blue sky. Suddenly, he remembered his wife, who had always silently supported him. He had thought her ugly and useless, but now, images of her flooded his mind. Was it guilt haunting him? He murmured, “I’m sorry, wife! If there’s a next life, I’ll repay you.”
Standing on the rooftop, he leaned forward, ready to let the wind carry him away. But a shout brought him back to his senses. He turned and saw his wife, tears streaming down her face, calling out, “Honey…”
He froze, tears falling, and confessed, “I’m sorry! I’ve hit and scolded you often, never giving you happiness. Now, for another woman, I’ve lost everything. I have no face to live on. Let me die! In the next life, I’ll be a cow or a horse to repay you for everything you’ve done for me.”
His wife cried, “Honey… don’t be foolish. Even without money, we can start over. Please come down! I beg you.” She fell to her knees before him.
Looking at the blue sky and his sobbing wife, he hesitated.
Just then, a radiant figure appeared before them. The devil held out the money to the wife, saying, “Take this money. I assure you, he won’t dare to mistreat you anymore.”
The man and his wife were stunned. They never expected the devil to return.
Seeing their bewilderment, the devil smiled and gracefully departed.
Leaving behind a couple embracing each other, weeping bitterly.
